Embassy Of Belarus, Moscow
The Embassy of Belarus in Moscow is the chief diplomatic mission of Belarus in the Russian Federation. It is located at 17 Maroseika Street () in the Basmanny District of Moscow. The embassy is located in the former palace of count Pyotr Rumyantsev, built in 1782. After the October Revolution, the building was nationalized and later transferred to the government of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic and hosted the official representation of the republic to the central government of the Soviet Union. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the official representation was transformed into the embassy of the independent Republic of Belarus. Since the 1990s, the embassy has become a place for protests against the regime of Alexander Lukashenko by members of the Belarusians in Russia, Belarusian diaspora and their Russian supporters. Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko (also transliterated as Alyaksandr Ryhoravich Lukashenka; born 30 August 1954) is a Belarusian politician who has been the first and only president of Belarus since the office's establishment in 1994, making him the List of current state leaders by date of assumption of office, current longest-serving European leader. Before embarking on his political career, Lukashenko worked as the director of a state farm (''sovkhoz'') and served in both the Soviet Border Troops and the Soviet Army. OVD-Info
OVD-Info () is an independent Russian human rights media project aimed at combating political persecution. Its main focus is freedom of assembly. OVD-Info is one of Russia’s largest human rights NGOs. History OVD-Info was founded in December 2011 by Moscow journalist Grigory Okhotin and programmer Daniil Beilinson. They witnessed mass arrests of participants in the pro-democracy rally on December 5, 2011. Okhotin and Beilinson then posted the total number of detainees and their names on Facebook. The post went viral, and seeing the demand for their work, by December 10, on the eve of the rally on Bolotnaya Square in Moscow, Okhotin and Beilinson launched the OVD-Info website. The name of the project comes from the abbreviation Department of Internal Affairs (), which is what police departments are often called in Russia. Echo of Moscow () was a 24/7 commercial Russian radio station based in Moscow. It broadcast in many Russian cities, some of the former Soviet republics (through partnerships with local radio stations), and via the Internet. From 1996 its editor-in-chief was Alexei Venediktov. On 1 March 2022, it was taken off the air by Roskomnadzor accusing it of spreading false information about the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian invasion of Ukraine.
