Electoral District Of Kelvin Grove
The electoral district of Kelvin Grove was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. It was first created in a redistribution ahead of the 1923 state election, and existed until the 1960 state election. Kelvin Grove replaced part of the former Electoral district of Enoggera. Kelvin Grove was abolished in 1960, replaced mainly by the Electoral district of Ashgrove. Members for Kelvin Grove :Tooth went on to represent Ashgrove from May 1960 to December 1974. Kelvin Grove is an inner northern Suburbs and localities (Australia), suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Kelvin Grove had a population of 7,927 people. Geography Kelvin Grove is approximately from the Brisbane central business district, CBD. It is primarily residential with tree-lined streets and some commercial and light industrial activities along its main thoroughfare, Kelvin Grove Road. La Boite Theatre Company, Queensland's second largest theatre company, operates from the Roundhouse Theatre on the Kelvin Grove campus of the Queensland University of Technology. Frank Waters (politician)
Francis John Waters (10 August 1907 – 6 August 1990), commonly referred to as F. J. Waters, was a telegraph messenger and trade unionist who became a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Waters was born in Hastings, New Zealand, the son of John Thomas Waters (born Hamilton, Victoria c. 1877; died 7 June 1938) and his wife Margaret (née McGrath). His education began at St Patrick's Convent in Auckland and in 1916 he left New Zealand and carried on his schooling at St Mary's Convent in New South Wales before finishing his education in Queensland at South Johnstone, Selwyn, and Kuridala State Schools. On leaving school he became a telegraph messenger, working for the PMG from 1922 to 1932 and then was a canvasser for new telephone subscribers. He served in World War II, joining the Australian Military Forces in 1942 and rising to the rank of Sergeant in the Queensland Echelon and Records Section of Army Records. The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. It was initially formed in October 1943 as the Queensland People's Party (QPP), which then absorbed the disbanded Queensland branch of the United Australia Party in 1944. In 1945, the QPP had an agreement with the newly formed Liberal Party, where in the "federal sphere", QPP would be the Queensland division of the Liberal Party and would run its candidates under the Liberal Party banner in federal elections. Sir Seymour Douglas Tooth (28 January 1904 — 3 July 1982) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Politics Tooth was unsuccessful in contesting the 1956 election in the electoral district of Kelvin Grove as the candidate for the Liberal Party. He was defeated by the sitting Labor member, Bert Turner who had held the seat since 1941. Tooth was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly in Kelvin Grove at the 1957 election, defeating Turner. John Albert "Bert" Turner (26 March 1888 – 5 April 1973) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Turner was born in Brisbane, Queensland, the son of William Riggen Turner and his wife Lucy (née Brinkley). He was educated at Milton State School and after finishing his education joined the fire brigade in 1906. The Protestant Labour Party, alternatively spelt Protestant Labor, was a minor Australian political party that operated mainly in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia in the 1920s and 1930s. It was formed by Walter Skelton in July 1923 as the Protestant Independent Labour Party. who had stood for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly district of Newcastle at the 1922 election, campaigning as a Protestant Independent Labour candidate, in which he was elected first of five members, receiving 25.19% of the vote. In 1925 he was re-elected to the Assembly under the Protestant Labour label, as the second of five members, receiving 17.70% of the vote. George Alfred Morris (15 July 1892 – 18 May 1967) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. He was the only member of the Protestant Labor Party to hold a seat in the Queensland Parliament. Biography Morris was born in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of William Boyd Morris and his wife Emily Jane (née Finney). He was educated at Glebe Public School, Sydney and after leaving school he enlisted with the Royal Australian Navy and was stationed at the Haslar Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, England, and from 1915-1918 was on HMAS Australia as a sick-berth attendant. He left the navy in 1923 was in show business from 1928 to 1938. He rejoined the navy when World War II broke out, being based at the Flinders Naval Hospital & Balmoral Depot, Rushcutters Bay, and at Leeuwin in Western Australia.
