Frank Waters (politician)
Francis John Waters (10 August 1907 – 6 August 1990), commonly referred to as F. J. Waters, was a telegraph messenger and trade unionist who became a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Waters was born in Hastings, New Zealand, the son of John Thomas Waters (born Hamilton, Victoria c. 1877; died 7 June 1938) and his wife Margaret (née McGrath). His education began at St Patrick's Convent in Auckland and in 1916 he left New Zealand and carried on his schooling at St Mary's Convent in New South Wales before finishing his education in Queensland at South Johnstone, Selwyn, and Kuridala State Schools. On leaving school he became a telegraph messenger, working for the PMG from 1922 to 1932 and then was a canvasser for new telephone subscribers. He served in World War II, joining the Australian Military Forces in 1942 and rising to the rank of Sergeant in the Queensland Echelon and Records Section of Army Records. Electoral District Of Kelvin Grove
The electoral district of Kelvin Grove was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. It was first created in a redistribution ahead of the 1923 state election, and existed until the 1960 state election. Kelvin Grove replaced part of the former Electoral district of Enoggera. Kelvin Grove was abolished in 1960, replaced mainly by the Electoral district of Ashgrove. Members for Kelvin Grove :Tooth went on to represent Ashgrove from May 1960 to December 1974. Australian Legion Of Ex-Servicemen
The Australian Legion of Ex-Servicemen and Women is an ex-service association. Formed in December 1944 from a number of existing organisations, membership of the legion is open to all ex-service personnel, including British Commonwealth and Allied personnel, and former members of the peacetime Australian regular and reserve forces. The legion has branches in each state, and sub-branches in major cities and towns, with its national headquarters located in Melbourne, Victoria. The National Council meets annually and makes submissions to government on matters affecting the ex-service community, while other activities include welfare and social events, as well as assisting with compensation and benefit claims. Ashgrove is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Ashgrove had a population of 13,039 people. Geography Ashgrove is located approximately by road north-west of the Brisbane GPO. Ashgrove is a leafy residential suburb characterised by its hilly terrain and characteristic Ashgrovian houses built in the early 20th century. While many of the surrounding suburbs have seen an increase in the number of residential apartments built in the past decade, Ashgrove remains predominantly a suburb of detached single dwelling houses, with many old Queenslander homes in the area. William Forgan Smith
William Forgan Smith (15 April 188725 September 1953) was an Australian politician. He served as Premier of the state of Queensland from 1932 to 1942. He came to dominate politics in the state during the 1930s, and his populism, firm leadership, defence of states' rights and interest in state development make him something of an archetypal Queensland Premier. Protestant Labor Party
The Protestant Labour Party, alternatively spelt Protestant Labor, was a minor Australian political party that operated mainly in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia in the 1920s and 1930s. It was formed by Walter Skelton in July 1923 as the Protestant Independent Labour Party. who had stood for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly district of Newcastle at the 1922 election, campaigning as a Protestant Independent Labour candidate, in which he was elected first of five members, receiving 25.19% of the vote. In 1925 he was re-elected to the Assembly under the Protestant Labour label, as the second of five members, receiving 17.70% of the vote.
