Ebaziya (foaled 18 March 1989) is a retired Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and mare who won three Listed races. As a broodmare, she has bred four individual Group 1 winners. Background Ebaziya was foaled on 18 March 1989 and was bred at the Aga Khan's Studs. She was sired by Darshaan. Ebaziya's dam is Ezana, hailed also from the Aga Khan's Studs. Ezana was bought by Jim and Mary McDonald of Herbage Stud in 1994. Ebaziya is a granddaughter of Dan Cupid's daughter, Evisa. Ebaziya was trained by John Oxx. Estimate (foaled 4 April 2009) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot as a three-year-old. As a four-year-old she won the Sagaro Stakes before returning to Royal Ascot to win the Gold Cup. She was owned by Queen Elizabeth II and trained by Sir Michael Stoute. In 2014 she tested positive to morphine in a post race drugs test and was disqualified from second place in the Gold Cup, but went on to win the Doncaster Cup. Background Estimate is a bay filly bred by the Aga Khan's Studs and foaled on 4 April 2009. She was sired by Monsun, who won the Europa Preis twice. Ebadiyla
Ebadiyla (foaled 24 March 1994) was an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. Bred and owned by the Aga Khan an trained by John Oxx she was unraced as a two-year-old in 1996 but quickly established herself as a very promising filly in the following spring with an emphatic win on her racecourse debut followed by a narrow defeat in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial. After finishing sixth in The Oaks she won the Irish Oaks and ended her season with a six length win in the Prix Royal-Oak. She remained in training as a four-year-old but failed to win in three races although she did finish third in a strong renewal of the Coronation Cup. Ballysax Stakes
The Ballysax Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Ireland open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs (2,012 metres) at Leopardstown in April. History The event was formerly held at the Curragh, and it used to be classed at Listed level. It was transferred to Leopardstown in 1993, and promoted to Group 3 status in 2003. The 2014 running was held at Navan as the normal Leopardstown fixture was judged to be too early in the season to serve as a trial race for the European classics. The Ballysax Stakes is currently run in memory of Patrick W. McGrath (died 2001). Monsun (4 March 1990 – 9 September 2012) was a bay Thoroughbred racehorse and stallion bred in Germany by Gestüt Isarland and owned by Baron Georg von Ullmann. Background Monsun was a son of Germany's first triple crown winner and champion racehorse and sire, Königsstuhl, a descendant of the influential sire, Bahram. Monsun's dam was Mosella who was sired by Surumu, a multi champion racehorse. Monsun was a strong, 16.1hh and attractive horse. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late August or early September. History The event is named after its long-term sponsor, Moyglare Stud. It was formerly contested over 6 furlongs, and for a period it held Group 3 status. It was promoted to Group 2 level in 1979, and to Group 1 in 1983. Its distance was extended to 7 furlongs in 1992. In 2014 it became part of the Irish Champions Weekend fixture.
