Enzeli (foaled 5 April 1995) is a retired Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and stallion. He won Ascot Gold Cup in 1999. Background Enzeli was bred at the Aga Khan's Studs and foaled on 5 April 1995. He was sired by Kahyasi. Enzeli's dam is Ebaziya, by Darshaan. Enzeli is the Ebaziya's second foal. His half-sister is Estimate, winner of the 2013 Gold Cup for Queen Elizabeth II. Enzeli has a lean and lengthy appearance. Enzeli was trained by John Oxx. He was sold for nearly 200.000 pounds to Australian businesspeople Kerry Packer and Lloyd Williams in 2000. Kahyasi
Kahyasi (2 April 1985 – 2008) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse. He won the first five races of his seven-race career, including the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby as a three-year-old in 1988. Background Kahyasi was a small dark-coated bay horse bred by his owner Aga Khan IV, HH Aga Khan IV at his stud in Ireland. His sire, Ile de Bourbon, was best known for his win in the 1978 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Kahyasi was trained by Luca Cumani at his Bedford House stable Newmarket, Suffolk during his racing career and was ridden in all his races by Ray Cochrane. The Melbourne Cup
The Melbourne Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held in Melbourne, Australia. It is a 3200-metre race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is the richest "two-mile" handicap in the world and one of the richest turf races. The event starts at 3:00 pm on the first Tuesday of November and is known locally as "the race that stops the nation". The Melbourne Cup has a long tradition, with the first race held in 1861. Pitcairn (horse)
Pitcairn (1971–2004) was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who competed in four countries before retiring to stud where he became Champion Sire in Britain. Background and pedigree Bred at Airlie Stud in Ireland, Pitcairn was bought as a yearling at Ballsbridge for IR£3,200 by the British Bloodstock Agency for Sandy Struthers. The relatively modest price was possibly due to an unattractive skin condition. He was sired by Petingo (incidentally the leading Great British sire the season prior to his son winning the title) who also produced 1978 Oaks winner Fair Salinia and 1979 horse of the year Troy. Red God (1954–1979) was a Thoroughbred race horse foaled in Kentucky who competed in England and the United States but who is best known as the sire of Blushing Groom who prominent turfman Edward L. Bowen calls one of the great international sires of the 20th century. Racing career At age two, Red God won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood Racecourse and was second in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster Racecourse after which he was brought back to the United States with plans to enter him in the American Triple Crown series. He won his American debut but was injured and out of racing for the rest of 1957. He returned to the track in 1958, with his best result a win in the Roseben Handicap at Belmont Park. Northern Dancer (May 27, 1961 – November 16, 1990) was a Thoroughbred who, in 1964, became the first Canadian-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby. He then became one of the most successful sires of the 20th century. He is considered a Canadian icon and was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1965. Ela-Mana-Mou (1976–2008) was a British Thoroughbred race horse and sire. In a career which lasted from 1978 until October 1980, he ran sixteen times and won ten races. He was one of the best British two-year-olds of 1978, when he defeated Troy in the Royal Lodge Stakes. At three, he won the King Edward VII Stakes and was the beaten favourite for The Derby. Ela-Mana-Mou had his most successful season as a four-year-old in 1980 when he won his first four races including the Eclipse Stakes and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Shirley Heights (1 March 1975 – 17 March 1997) was a British Thoroughbred race horse and winner of the Derby in 1978. The colt had previously won the Royal Lodge Stakes and the Dante Stakes, and he went on to win the Irish Derby before his racing career was ended by injury.
