Eastern Rhinos
The Eastern Rhinos Rugby League Football Club is a British rugby league club based in Colchester, in the county of Essex. Their first team plays in the South Premier Division of the Rugby League Conference. Eastern Rhinos A-side play in the London League and Rhinos run a youth section with teams for boys aged 6 through to U18s. They train hard and play harder. Club history The club was formed in 1992 from the successful Civil Service South East Team and began life on the Suffolk coast as ''Felixstowe Eastern Rugby League Football Club''. Due to the wide catchment area of players' homes the club moved to the county town of Ipswich in time for the 1995 - 1996 season and were elected to the London Amateur Rugby League. The club based itself at Ipswich RUFC in 1995, a club of 125 years standing where Felixstowe Eastern became ''Ipswich Rhinos'' in honour of the South African national side the Rhinos. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. The London Mens League, is a division in rugby league's tier 5. It was the highest level of amateur rugby league in the South of England until the creation in 2013 of Southern Conference League. It was first contested in 2005 as the South Premier division of the Rugby League Conference but is currently a standalone league run by London Rugby League. Many of the clubs run juniors in the London Junior League. History The Rugby League Conference was born in 1997 as the Southern Conference. The Premier Division was set up in 2005 for teams who had achieved a certain playing standard and were able to travel further afield to find stronger opposition. Colchester
Colchester ( ) is a city in Essex, in the East of England. It had a population of 122,000 in 2011. The demonym is Colcestrian. Colchester occupies the site of Camulodunum, the first major city in Roman Britain and its first capital. Colchester therefore claims to be Britain's first city. Rugby League Conference
The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'. London League (rugby League)
The London and South East Merit League is a rugby league competition founded in 1965. It is also known as the ''London League'' (LL), ''London, South and East Merit League'', ''London Amateur Rugby League'' (LARL) and ''London Merit League'' (LML). It is now one of four feeder leagues for the Rugby League Conference (RLC). There is also a London Junior League for youth teams. Structure The merit system, which gives its unofficial name to the league as the London Merit League, came about as a way to accommodate the needs of as many of clubs as possible. The "merit table" system gives teams, freedom to arrange as many or few games amongst the other league participants as they wish. The results of fixtures worked out between the teams are compiled into a league table based on average scores. The top six teams then go through to a play-off system to determine the champion club. Suffolk
