Dons (singer)
Arturs Šingirejs (born 10 April 1984 in Saldus), better known as Dons, is a Latvian singer and songwriter. He is one of the most popular singers in Latvia, having won the Latvian Music Recording Awards' Top Radio Hit award six times for most played song. He has released eight solo albums and has won numerous awards including Latvijas Radio's Muzikālās Banka () Song of the Year four times. He has attempted to represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest twice with the songs "Freedom is my Religion" (2010) and "Pēdējā Vēstule" (2014), finishing in second both times. He has used the stage names Art Green and Art Singer while performing outside of Latvia. Born in Saldus, Latvia, Dons began his career winning the Latvian reality show ''Talantu Fabrikā'' (') in 2003. Saldus
Saldus (; german: Frauenburg) is a Latvian town located in Courland ( lv, Kurzeme) and is the main town, and the central location in Saldus Municipality. The name Saldus has been noted in historical sources as far back as the mid-13th century, but the founding year is considered to be 1856, and it gained town rights in 1917. The city is almost precisely in between Riga and Liepāja (slightly closer to ‘Liepāja’ (100 km), than Riga (119 km). River Ciecere flows through Saldus, and it is a tributary to one of Latvia’s biggest rivers Venta. The city is often referred to as "the Bowl of Courland". This is because of a famous quote by Māris Čaklais: "A drop of honey in the bowl of Courland". The reasoning behind the quote is the fact that from a high point, the city looks like a crater. Palladium Riga
Palladium Riga is a concert venue and former cinema in Riga, Latvia. It is located at 21 Marijas iela, Riga, and was opened as a music venue on September 28, 2011. Its capacity is 1600 to 2000. The venue was opened in the place of former cinema "Palladium", which was opened back in 1913, and was open until 2002. History Cinema "Palladium" was established in 1913, in a former dwelling house. It was the largest cinema in Riga. The cinema had a futuristic design, a cafe, a balcony, and an unusually large hall for cinemas of that time. "Palladium" featured the latest movies, and there always was a line to get the tickets. In 1994 the cinema was privatized. The cinema closed at the end of 2001. Around 2006, construction of an ambitious nightclub had begun, but it did not experience its opening. Latvia In The Eurovision Song Contest 2014
Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Cake to Bake" written by Guntis Veilands. The song was performed by the band Aarzemnieki. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organised the national final ''Dziesma 2014'' in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. Twenty-four songs were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of three shows: two semi-finals and a final. In the semi-finals on 1 and 2 February 2014, six entries were selected to advance from each show. Twelve songs ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 22 February 2014 where two rounds of voting by a public televote and a nine-member jury panel selected "Cake to Bake" performed by Aarzemnieki as the winner. Aminata Savadogo (born 9 January 1993), occasionally known as simply Aminata, is a Latvian singer, songwriter, record producer, and model.
