Dan McLean (journalist)
Dan McLean is a Canadian retired news anchor, most recently working for Mix 106.5 FM in Owen Sound, Ontario and former senior news anchor for CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario. McLean grew up in Orillia, Ontario and started his journalism career working part-time at a Welland radio station when he was just 15 years old. He then went on to numerous radio jobs in many southern Ontario cities including Kitchener-Waterloo area. After a couple of radio news anchor jobs in Saskatchewan ( Regina and Saskatoon), McLean moved back to Ontario, and in 1971, began his long career at CHCH-TV in Hamilton. He started out as a commercial announcer, and got his first television stint as host of the CHCH-TV documentary program, "Mid-Day", which was taped at Hamilton Place. Orillia
Orillia is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is in Simcoe County between Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe. Although it is geographically located within Simcoe County, the city is a single-tier municipality. It is part of the Huronia region of Central Ontario. The population in 2021 was 33,411. It was incorporated as a village in 1867, but the history of what is today the City of Orillia dates back at least several thousand years. Archaeologists have uncovered evidence of fishing by the Huron and Iroquois peoples in the area over 4,000 years ago, and of sites used by Aboriginal peoples for hundreds of years for trading, hunting, and fishing. CIXK-FM, branded as ''Mix 106.5'', is a Canadian FM radio station, broadcasting from studios on 9th Street East in downtown Owen Sound, Ontario. CIXK is the most listened to radio station in Owen Sound. History In 1987, Bayshore Broadcasting Corp., owner of 560 CFOS, filed an application with the CRTC for a new FM station to serve Owen Sound. The application was approved by the CRTC on October 26 the same year. Transmitter testing at 106.5 MHz began in late 1988 and was launched on January 3, 1989 as ''K106.5''. In the 1990s CIXK-FM aired a mix of acoustic rock and country crossover format using the slogan "The mix that kicks". Owen Sound
Owen Sound ( 2021 Census population 21,612) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The county seat of Grey County, it is located at the mouths of the Pottawatomi and Sydenham Rivers on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The primary tourist attractions are the many waterfalls within a short drive of the town. History The area around the upper Great Lakes has been home to the Ojibwe people since prehistory. CHCH-DT (channel 11) is an independent television station in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Channel Zero, the station maintains studios on Innovation Drive in the west end of Hamilton; prior to 2021, it was located near the corner of Jackson and Caroline streets in downtown Hamilton for nearly 65 years. The station has additional offices at the Marriott on the Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Its transmitter is located on First Road West in the former city of Stoney Creek.
