Doha Metropolitan Area
The Doha Metropolitan Area (DMA; also known as Greater Doha Area) is the metropolitan area of Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The DMA comprises several contiguous cities and urban zones immediately surrounding Doha, serving as the main area of Qatar's population concentration. As of 2021, the population of the metropolitan area is upwards of 2 million. Boundaries The exact boundaries of the DMA are open to interpretation, with different definitions existing. Al Rayyan (city)
Al-Rayyan ( ar, الريان) is a city in the municipality of its namesake, Al Rayyan, Qatar. The city and its suburbs comprise the largest population center in Qatar outside of Doha proper, immediately to its east. Consisting of all of the districts in the municipality's easternmost section, its western boundary is roughly where the Al Majd Highway runs through the municipality. It is considered a part of the metropolitan Doha area. It is one of the venues for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Lusail ( ar, لوسيل, , ) is the second-largest city in Qatar, located on the coast, in the southern part of the municipality of Al Daayen. Lusail is located about north of the city centre of Doha, just north of the West Bay Lagoon, on over and will eventually have the infrastructure to accommodate 450,000 people. Of these 450,000 people, it is estimated that 250,000 or fewer will be residents, 190,000 will be office workers and 60,000 will be retail workers. Umm Salal (; also spelled Umm Slal) is a municipality in the State of Qatar. It contains several historic places, such as Barzan Tower. The municipal headquarters Umm Salal is located in Umm Salal Ali, about 10 km from the coast and 15 km north of Doha, the Qatari capital. Etymology The first word of Umm Salal is Arabic for "mother", while ''salal'' refers to large rocks or stones. Hence, the area's name translates literally to "mother of rocks". The Doha Industrial Area ( ar, الدوحة المنطقة الصناعية, Ad-Dawḥah al-Minṭaqat aṣ-Ṣinā'yah) is a district of Doha Municipality, Qatar. Education City is a development in Al Rayyan, Qatar. Developed by the Qatar Foundation, the property houses various educational facilities, including satellite campuses of eight international universities.
