Die Ärzte (; ) is a German rock band from Berlin. The band has released 14 studio albums. The group consists of guitarist Farin Urlaub, drummer Bela B and bass player Rodrigo González. All three write and perform their songs. History Early years Die Ärzte were formed in West Berlin in 1982 by Jan Vetter (alias Farin Urlaub, a pun on the expression "Fahr' in Urlaub", meaning "Go on vacation"), Dirk Felsenheimer (alias Bela B, referring to Dracula actor Bela Lugosi) and bassist Hans Runge, alias . Bela and Farin had previously played together in the punk band Soilent Grün, established in 1979 and named after the film ''Soylent Green''. It consists of previously released studio, single, remix and live versions of Die Ärzte songs, along with four remixes originally created for this album. The title refers to the title of '' Die Ärzte früher!'' (''Die Ärzte earlier!''), which was a compilation of songs pre-1984. This means, that ''Das Beste von kurz nach früher bis jetze'' is a compilation of songs from 1984-1994. The booklet features commentaries by Bela and Farin. "Schrei nach Liebe" ("Cry for Love") is a punk rock song by German band Die Ärzte. It is the second track and the first single from their 1993 album ''Die Bestie in Menschengestalt''. It is one of the best known political anthems and anti-fascist songs in Germany and was made in the context of the Hoyerswerda riots. "Friedenspanzer" (in German: ''Peace tank'') is a punk song by Die Ärzte. It's the thirteenth track and the third single from their 1993 album ''Die Bestie in Menschengestalt''. This song is about a war machine, that spreads peace, love and solutions for problems in the world, and helps people. "Friedenspanzer" and "Schopenhauer" on the maxi single are identical versions as on the usual single. The opening lines "Ich möchte eine Welt, in der Würmer und Insekten endlich wieder schmecken. "Quark" (meaning "rubbish", literally curd) is a punk song by Die Ärzte. It's the fourteenth track and the fourth single from their 1993 album '' Die Bestie in Menschengestalt''. It's about a man, who can't handle the chattering of his consort. The single version criticises the gibberish of politicians. The single version is also on "Das Beste von kurz nach früher bis jetze". The video In the video the single version of the song is sung. The video features the band in a bar with hillbillies and women with deep cleavage. The supposed members of the band are also dressed like hillbillies and they're eating curd while watching politicians, who are in fact the real band members, talking on TV. Rodrigo González (musician)
Rodrigo "Rod" Andrés González Espíndola (born 19 May 1968) is a Chilean-born German musician known as the bassist and one of the singers of German rock band Die Ärzte. Early life González' parents were politically persecuted in Chile during the Pinochet dictatorship, and so were granted asylum in Hamburg. His family initially lived there on social benefits until his father found work. He completed his '' Abitur'' (school-leaving exams) at the Gymnasium Langenhorn. He has an older sister, Claudia, who also works as a musician (Universal González). As a teenager, González was a member of the band Die Erben. From 1986 to 1988, he played banjo in the Hamburg punk band Die Goldenen Zitronen, and from 1988 to 1989 he was the guitarist in the Rainbirds. Jan Vetter (born 27 October 1963), better known as Farin Urlaub. (from the German ''Fahr in Urlaub!'', "Go on holiday!"), is a German singer, guitarist and songwriter. He is best known as the guitarist/vocalist for punk rock band Die Ärzte. He has also been a solo artist since 2001, touring with his band, the Farin Urlaub Racing Team. His releases starting in 2006 are credited to the band. Early life Vetter was born on 27 October 1963 in West Berlin. Until the age of seven, he lived with his mother in a flat in Berlin's Moabit district, and then in Frohnau until he was 18..
