Dera Ghazi Khan District
Dera Ghazi Khan (Urdu and pnb, , Saraiki: , bal, ڈیرہ غازی خان) is a district in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Its capital is the town of Dera Ghazi Khan. Most of its inhabitants are Saraikis and Baloch. The district lies to the west of the Indus River. The Sulaiman Mountains rise to a height of in the north of the district. Administration The district is divided into three tehsils which are divided into a total of sixty Union Councils: History The city was founded at the close of the 15th century and named after Nawab Ghazi Khan Mirani, son of Nawab Haji Khan Mirani, a Balochi chieftain, who had declared independence from the Langah Dynasty's Sultans of Multan. Saraiki People
The Saraikis ( skr, ), are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group inhabiting parts of central and southeastern Pakistan, primarily in the southern part of the Pakistani province of Punjab They are mainly found in a region of southern Punjab known as Saraikistan, as well as in most parts of Derajat, which is located in the region where southwestern Punjab, southeastern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Balochistan meet. Derajat is bound by the Indus River to the east and the Sulaiman Mountains to the west. The Saraiki people follow many religions, though most are predominantly followers of Islam. A small minority of Saraikis follow Chistianity, Hinduism and Sikhism. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, many Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India where they are known as Multanis, Derawalis and Bhawalpuris. Derajat ( Punjabi/Urdu: ), the plural of the word 'dera', is a cultural region of central Pakistan, located in the region where the provinces of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan meet. Derajat is bound by the Indus River to the east, and the Sulaiman Mountains to the west. The two major cities in the region are Dera Ghazi Khan (southwestern Punjab) and Dera Ismail Khan (southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). Multan (; ) is a city in Punjab, Pakistan, on the bank of the Chenab River. Ghazi Khan
Ghazi Khan ( Balochi, Urdu ) was a Baloch mercenary from who moved to Multan in the late 15th century at the behest of the Langah Sultanate. He was accompanied by his sons, Ghazi Khan, Fatih Khan and Ismail Khan. The Derajat had its existence as an historical area to the Baloch immigration in the fifteenth century. Sultan Husain, the Langah dynasty's Sultans of Multan, being unable to hold his trans-Indus possessions, called in Baloch mercenaries, and assigned these territories to Haji Khan.
