The Dassanowsky family (also Dassanofsky, Dassanovsky, etc.) is the name of the Austrian branch of the Polish noble magnate family Taczanowski which came to Vienna in 1683 and has produced notable figures in Austrian civic and cultural life. Dassanowskyweg (Dassanowsky Way) in the 22nd District (Donaustadt) of Vienna was named in recognition of the family. Elfriede "Elfi" von Dassanowsky (February 2, 1924October 2, 2007) was an Austrian-born singer, pianist and film producer. Early life Elfi von Dassanowsky (also known as Elfi Dassanowsky or Elfriede Dassanowsky) was born Elfriede Maria Elisabeth Charlotte Dassanowsky in Vienna, the daughter of Franz Leopold von Dassanowsky, a civil servant in the Austrian Trade Ministry, and Anna (née Grünwald). Her father knew writer Hermann Broch from Vienna's café society in the 1920s and was one of the inspirations for the character of Herr von Pasenow in Broch's novel '' The Sleepwalkers''. Robert von Dassanowsky FRHistS, FRSA (born January 28, 1965) is an Austrian-American academic, writer, film and cultural historian, and producer. He is usually known as Robert Dassanowsky. Education, career and publications Dassanowsky was born in New York City. A student of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and a graduate of UCLA (MA, PhD), where he also served as Visiting Professor of German, Dassanowsky is a widely published academician, independent film producer, playwright, and has written for television. He holds dual American and Austrian citizenship. Dassanowsky was named CU Distinguished Professor of Film Studies and Languages & Cultures by the University of Colorado System in November 2020. Taczanowski (Polish feminine: Taczanowska; plural: Taczanowscy) is the surname of a Polish szlachta (nobility) family from Poznań bearing the Jastrzębiec coat of arms and the motto: ''Plus penser que dire''. John III Sobieski ( pl, Jan III Sobieski; lt, Jonas III Sobieskis; la, Ioannes III Sobiscius; 17 August 1629 – 17 June 1696) was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1674 until his death in 1696. Born into Polish nobility, Sobieski was educated at the Jagiellonian University and toured Europe in his youth. Felix Czeike (21 August 1926 – 23 April 2006) was an Austrian historian and popular educator. He was an author and partly also editor of numerous publications on the history of Vienna and was the director of the . His main work is the six-volume ''Historische Lexikon Wien''. Life Czeike, born in Favoriten (10th district of Vienna), studied history, geography, German studies and art history at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1950.
