Independencia (better known as Colonia Independencia) is a town and district in the Guairá department of Paraguay. The town is a tourist attraction because of its German heritage, specially in the month of October for its big Oktoberfest celebration. Guairá () is a Department (subnational entity), department in Paraguay. The capital is the city of Villarrica, Paraguay, Villarrica. It covers a surface of , with a population of 178,130 inhabitants (2002). One can arrive there by taking the Number 8 Blas Garay Road. It was founded on May 14, 1570, by Ruy Diaz Melgarejo, Ruiz Diaz de Melgarejo. Oktoberfest
The Oktoberfest (; bar, Wiesn, Oktobafest) is the world's largest Volksfest, featuring a beer festival and a travelling carnival. It is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
