Chiayi Confucian Temple
The Chiayi Confucian Temple () is a Confucian temple in Chiayi Park, East District, Chiayi City, Taiwan. History The temple was originally built in 1706. In 1815, the temple restoration stele was inscribed and erected. In 1907, an earthquake occurred in the city and the Confucian Tablet was moved to Wenchang Hall and later re-housed at Nanmen Shengshen Temple. In 1961, the Confucian Temple was rebuilt inside Chiayi Park and the Temple Restoration Stele was re-erected in the garden of the new temple. In 1964, the new Confucian Temple was completed and the Confucian Tablet was returned to Dacheng Hall. Transportation The temple is accessible within walking distance south east of Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. Confucianism, also known as Ruism or Ru classicism, is a system of thought and behavior originating in ancient China. Chiayi (, Taiwanese Hokkien, Taigi Pe̍h-ōe-jī, POJ: ''Ka-gī''; ), officially known as Chiayi City, is a Provincial city (Taiwan), city located in the plains of southwestern Taiwan. Formerly called ''Kagee'' during the late Qing dynasty and ''Kagi'' during the Taiwan under Japanese rule, Japanese era (), its historical name is ''Tirosen''. History Early history First inhabited by the Hoanya Taiwanese aborigines, aborigines, the region was named Tirosen (variants ''Tirocen'', ''Tiracen''). With the arrival of Han Chinese immigrants in southwestern Taiwan, the name evolved to become ''Tsulosan'' () in Hokkien. Eventually, Tsulosan was shortened to simply Tsulo. Chiayi Park
Chiayi Park () is a park at East District, Chiayi City, Taiwan. History The park was built in 1911 during the Japanese era. It was once renamed to Zhongshan Park in 1949, but reverted to its current name in 1997. Architecture The park spans over an area of 26.8 hectares. Beimen Railway Station
Beimen () (literally "North gate") is a railway station on the Forestry Bureau Alishan Forest Railway line located in East District, Chiayi City, Taiwan. History The station was opened on 1 October 1912. On 16 May 1998 the station caught in fire which resulted the 40% burning of station right side. The Chiayi Forest District Office then planned a budget to restore the station and restoration work with red cypress was completed on 7 November the same year. In August 1999, section of the railway between Fenqihu Station and Alishan Station was badly damaged by Typhoon Morakot. On 20 September 1999, it was damaged again by the 1999 Jiji earthquake. After restoration efforts, a successful trail run of the train between Beimen Station and Alishan Station was made on 16 September 2015.
