CAU Metropolitano RC is a Spanish rugby team based in Madrid. The acronym originally stood for Club Atlético Universitario - University Athletic Club in Spanish. Founded in 1961, they currently play in the División de Honor B de Rugby, Spain's second flight. History The club was founded in 1961 by students from the Colegio Alemán Madrid with the name Club Atlético Universitario (CAU). In the first years of its history it competed in the regional Madrid leagues. The club grew progressively thanks to mergers with other teams and the support of the Spanish University Union (SEU). In 1968, they won their first national title, the second tier Spanish Championship. In 1970 it was one of the six founding teams of the National Rugby League. With the disappearance of the SEU, the Club Atlético Universitario changed its name to Club Atlético Uros, thus maintaining the same identifying initials. División De Honor B De Rugby
División de Honor B is the second level of Spanish league competition for rugby union clubs. The league began in 1998 and consists of three groups (North, East and South) of 8 or 9 teams each. The two top teams of each group and two best 3rd-placed teams qualify for promotion playoff. Competition Format The season takes place between October and April. There are three groups of 12 teams, with every team playing each other home and away for a total of 22 matches. Points are awarded according to the following: *4 points for a win *2 points for a draw *1 bonus point is awarded to a team scoring 4 tries or more in a match *1 bonus point is awarded to a team that loses a match by 7 points or fewer Promotion playoffs For the promotion playoff, the teams are seeded by total points. The División de Honor de Rugby is Spain's top level professional men's rugby union competition. The División de Honor de Rugby Championship is organised by the Federación Española de Rugby (Spanish Rugby Federation) and currently consists of 12 teams. The last-placed team in the competition is relegated at the end of the season to the División de Honor B, Spain`s second level of men's rugby union. The team finishing 11th enters a relegation/promotion playoff with the runner-up from the Division de Honor B playoffs.
