Content Overseas Distribution Association
is a Japanese trade association based in Tokyo. It was established in 2002 for international distribution of Japanese content (frequently anime and manga) and taking countermeasures against piracy. In 2013, CODA merged with Anti-Counterfeiting Association (ACA), in order to strengthen our capability for copyright protection and offer comprehensive measures against copyright infringement in Japan as well as overseas. In 2022, CODA established the International Anti-Piracy Organization (IAPO), with associating 32 members, the Motion Picture Association, and Copyright Society of China within approximately 450 members. ''Otaku USA'' is a bimonthly magazine published by Sovereign Media, which covers various elements of the "otaku" lifestyle (such as anime, manga, video games, cosplay and Japanese popular music) from an American perspective. The issues were accompanied by a DVD featuring three anime episodes but as of 2009 the DVD feature was dropped and the double sided poster feature of the Magazine was also dropped starting with the February 2010 issue. Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) is a coalition of over 30 major global entertainment companies and film studios aimed at protecting profits from copyrighted material. It was launched on June 13, 2017. The stated mission of ACE is to protect profits, drawing on the anti-piracy resources of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Japanese Copyright Law
consist of two parts: "Author's Rights" and "Neighbouring Rights". As such, "copyright" is a convenient collective term rather than a single concept in Japan. Japan was a party to the original Berne convention in 1899, so its copyright law is in sync with most international regulations. The 1899 law protected copyrighted works for 30 years after the author's death.
