Club Deportivo Filanbanco was a football team based out of Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was formed in 1979 by Filanbanco, one of the largest banks in Ecuador. The club dissolved a little after one decade of existence when it ceded its team to Valdez Sporting Club. Filanbanco
Filanbanco was the largest bank in Ecuador. Founded in the city of Guayaquil, it went bankrupt in 2001 following the 1998-99 Ecuador banking crisis, banking crisis of 1998. Beginnings The bank was originally called La Filantrópica (The Philanthropist). Under the leadership of Pedro Isaías Barquet, La Filantrópica promoted the development of small industry, commerce, and agriculture, and became established as a strong and solvent financial institution. At the time of Isaías Barquet's death in 1960, the family decided to save the bank and inject it with capital. It was acquired in 1960 by the The Isaias Group, Isaías Group (''Grupo Isaías''), who decided to change its name to Filanbanco. Valdez Sporting Club
Valdez Sporting Club was an Ecuadorian football club based in Milagro, Guayas. The club was founded in 1991 after Filanbanco ceded its franchise to the club. That same year, it finished as the Serie A runner-up. The following year, they participated in their first and only Copa Libertadores. They successfully advanced out of the group stage and were eventually eliminated in the Round of 16 by San Lorenzo de Almagro by penalties. After six years, the club folded in 1997. The Liga Pro Betcris, simply known as the Liga Pro, or the Serie A, is a professional football league in Ecuador. At the top of the Ecuadorian football league system, it is the country's premier football competition. Contested by sixteen clubs, it operates a system of promotion and relegation with the Serie B, the lower level of the Primera Categoría.
