Christian Farla
Christian Farla (born May 5, 1970, in Rotterdam) is a Dutch magician from Rotterdam who specializes in illusions. In 2006 and 2009, he won the Merlin Award. Biography Christian was born in Rotterdam on May 5, 1970. He won the Dutch Junior Championships for Stage Magic aged 12 and decided to become an illusionist. During school holidays, he traveled with the circus and learned about performing for large audiences. In 1992, he met his future partner and magic assistant, Bianca, who was performing as a dancer in the same show he was performing in. On August 19, 2008, their son was born. In 1993, 1999, and 2001, the magic duo won the first prize in the Dutch Magic Championships. In 1996 they got their first big contract with Vd Ende Events to perform in many large productions in the Studios in Aalsmeer. Magic, which encompasses the subgenres of illusion, stage magic, and close up magic, among others, is a performing art in which audiences are entertained by tricks, effects, or illusions of seemingly impossible feats, using natural means. It is to be distinguished from paranormal magic which are effects claimed to be created through supernatural means. It is one of the oldest performing arts in the world. Modern entertainment magic, as pioneered by 19th-century magician Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin, has become a popular theatrical art form. Merlin Award
The International Magicians Society (IMS) is a magic (illusion), magic society created by Tony Hassini to "help promote and preserve the art of magic and provide a format where magicians could share their secrets and ideas." The society gives its own "Merlin Award" to magicians on a regular basis, though this award is not recognized in the wider community, its authenticity has been questioned, and critics allege that the award is something that can be bought in order to increase publicity. History The IMS claims on its website that it was founded in 1968, though this date has been questioned, and asserted to actually be 1994. The IMS website also claims that the Merlin Award statuette, designed by Hassini, was created in 1964 by Carol Michaud, a New York University art student. Drill Of Death
The Drill of Death is a large-scale stage illusion in which a performer appears to be impaled on a giant drill. It was created by magician André Kole and illusion designer Ken Whitaker for magician Melinda Saxe. It was one of Saxe's signature tricks and featured as a highlight in her various ''First Lady of Magic'' shows. The illusion featured in several network television magic specials. It was first shown on television in November 1995, when Melinda performed it on '' The World's Greatest Magic II'' broadcast by NBC. It later served as one of the big set pieces in Melinda's own ''Melinda, First Lady of Magic'' special produced by Disney and broadcast on CBS in March 1997.
