Chess At The 2003 All-Africa Games
The chess events at the 2003 All-Africa Games were held from 5 to 17 October at the Nicon Hilton Hotel in Abuja. This was the first time chess was contested at the All-Africa Games. The four events were men's and women's team competitions at time controls (all moves in 25 minutes plus 10 seconds per move), and men's and women's individual competitions at time controls (all moves in five minutes plus 3 seconds increment per move). Teams played matches on four : each team consisted of a minimum of four players and up to two optional reserve players. In the team competitions, medals were awarded to the teams scoring the highest number of board points, as well as to individual players with the best performances on each board in terms of win percentage. Eleven men's teams played a round-robin tournament held from 5 to 15 October. Sierra Leone registered a twelfth team but withdrew for not having enough players. The chess events at the 2007 All-Africa Games were held from 12 to 21 July at the Cité des Sciences in Algiers. The four events were men's and women's team competitions at time controls (all moves in 25 minutes plus 10 seconds per move), and men's and women's individual competitions at time controls. Teams played matches on four : each team consisted of a minimum of four players and up to two optional reserve players. In the team competitions, medals were awarded to the teams scoring the highest number of board points, as well as to individual players with the best performances on each board in terms of win percentage. Thirteen men's teams played a round-robin tournament held from 12 to 19 July. Egypt went undefeated through the tournament, conceding only one draw to Zambia, to win the team gold medal for the second time in a row, scoring 40 board points. 2019 African Games
The 12th African Games was held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. This was the first time that the African Games were hosted by Morocco following the country's readmission to the African Union in January 2017. Bidding process The 12th African Games was schedule in September 2019. Accra, Nairobi and Lusaka announced that they would bid for these Games, but none of them were selected. Malabo, Equatorial Guinea was initially chosen to organise the 2019 African Games at the Second Ordinary Session of the Specialist Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports, which was held at the headquarters of the African Union, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 13 to 17 June 2016. However, Equatorial Guinea was unable to host the Games due to economic problems. Lusaka, the capital of Zambia was later speculated to host the Games but refused, citing lack of facilities. The 10th All-Africa Games took place between September 3–18, 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique. Maputo's hosting marked the third time the Games was held in the southern part of the continent. The 9th All-Africa Games took place between 11 and 23 July 2007 in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. Algiers is the first city to hold All-Africa Games for a second time. Abuja
Abuja () is the capital and eighth most populous city of Nigeria.
