Saskatoon Meewasin is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. The district includes the neighbourhoods of River Heights, Richmond Heights, City Park, North Park, and Kelsey-Woodlawn. As of the Canada 2016 Census, the population of the riding was 15,135. Created for the 16th Saskatchewan general election as "Saskatoon Mayfair" out of part of Saskatoon City, this constituency was redrawn and renamed "Saskatoon River Heights" in 1991. Carol Teichrob (née Sproxton; August 27, 1939 – December 18, 2022) was a Saskatchewan politician, member of the legislative assembly (MLA) for eight years. She was an agricultural producer for 35 years, and also served as councillor and reeve of the Rural Municipality (RM) of Corman Park ten years. Biography Marriage and children Teichrob and her husband Donald have three children, as well as seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Teichrob died in Prince George, British Columbia on December 18, 2022. Frank Quennell (born 1956 in Regina, Saskatchewan) was a New Democratic Party MLA for the provincial constituency of Saskatoon Meewasin, covering part of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. The name was changed to the Saskatchewan Grain Growers' Association (SGGA) when Saskatchewan became a province in 1905.
