Candice McLeod
Candice McLeod (born 15 November 1996) is a Jamaican athlete, a finalist in the women's 400 metres races at the 2020 Olympic Games and the 2022 World Athletics Championships. Early and personal life McLeod attended Vere Technical High School where she was befriended and mentored by future athletics champion Shericka Jackson, before McLeod went on to become an accounting graduate from the University of West Indies. Career At the Jamaican Olympic Trials, in June 2021, McLeod lowered her personal best time for a sixth time in a year, running 49.91 seconds in the 400 metres to finish second behind Stephenie Ann McPherson. This secured McLeod's slot on the Jamaican team for the delayed 2020 Summer Games. In the 400 metres races at the Tokyo Olympics McLeod won her heat, and then ran a new personal best time of 49.51 seconds in her semi final and qualified for the final in which she finished in fifth place. 2023 World Athletics Championships
The 2023 World Athletics Championships ( hu, 2023-as atlétikai világbajnokság), the nineteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships, are scheduled to be held from 19 August to 27 August 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. Stephenie Ann McPherson
Stephenie Ann McPherson (born 25 November 1988) is a Jamaican track and field athlete, who specializes in the 400 metres. She has won a bronze medal in the event at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics, 2013 World Championships, and then placed in the finals of both the Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Rio Olympics and the Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and all four following World Athletics Championships, World Championships between 2015 and 2022, consecutively. McPherson earned also a bronze at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships, 2022 World Indoor Championships. She added medals in the 4 x 400 metres relays, taking a silver at the 2016 Olympics, a gold in 2015 World Championships in Athletics, 2015 in Beijing, and a bronze in 2019 World Athletics Championships, 2019. 2023 World Athletics Championships – Women's 400 Metres
The women's 400 metres at the 2023 World Athletics Championships was held at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary from 20 to 23 August 2023. The winning margin was 0.81 seconds which as of 2024 is the only time the women's 400 metres has been won by more than 0.7 seconds at these championships. Summary The buildup to the event was very hectic, as world leader Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone withdrew just a few weeks before the championships started, citing a minor knee injury. 2019 champion and #3 all-time Salwa Eid Naser also withdrew, just days before the heats started. Aside from the withdrawals, some big names also failed to make it past the first round. Defending champion and #6 all-time Shaunae Miller-Uibo was not back in full form, as she returned to the track just four months after giving birth to her first child. The women's 400 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, U.S. from 17 to 22 July 2022. Summary In the absence of defending champion, #3 all time Salwa Eid Naser due to a succession of missed drug tests, #7 and double Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Marileidy Paulino were among the handful of athletes who had broken 50 seconds in 2022. Those two were the only ones to achieve the feat in the semis, though all auto qualifiers were under 50.2. Adorned with green hair, Miller-Uibo quickly shortened the stagger between herself and Fiordaliza Cofil and then Candice McLeod to her outside. Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the Games. They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed to 2021, with the track and field events set for 30 July – 8 August. The sport of athletics at these Games was split into three distinct sets of events: track and field events, remaining in Tokyo, and road running events and racewalking events, moved to Sapporo.
