Gilgil
Gilgil, Kenya, is a town in Nakuru County, Kenya. The town is located between Naivasha and Nakuru and along the Nairobi - Nakuru highway. It is to the west of the Gilgil River, which flows south to feed Lake Naivasha. Gilgil has a population of 18,805 according to the 1999 census. Gilgil is the centre of the Gilgil Division in Nakuru County. History During the 1920s - 1940s, some members of the Happy Valley set lived in Gilgil. From 1944 to 1948, it also contained a British internment camp for Irgun and Lehi members. The first soldiers that arrived in the town were advance parties of the South African Army preparing for the arrival of the 1st South African Infantry Brigade, which was training in the area by mid-1940. Edinburgh Sheriff Court
Edinburgh Sheriff Court is a sheriff court in Chambers Street in Edinburgh, within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh and Borders. History The new court was commissioned by the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service to replace the Old Sheriff Court in the Lawnmarket. The site they selected had previously been occupied by a part of Heriot-Watt University. Designed by John Kirkwood Wilson of PSA Projects, it was built with 16 courtrooms, at a cost of £47 million, and was officially opened to the public in September 1994. Operations The court deals with both criminal and civil cases. There are currently thirteen sheriffs in post at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Gilbert Deya
Gilbert Juma Deya () is a stonemason turned evangelist who lived in Britain from the mid-1990s until 2017, when he was extradited to Kenya to face charges of stealing five children between 1999 and 2004. He was acquitted of the charges in 2023. His organization, Gilbert Deya Ministries, claims that Deya is able to help infertile women to conceive through the power of prayer. Background Deya was born in the morning of 2 February 1937 in Juja, Kiambu County, outside of Nairobi and was the eleventh child in a family of fifteen children. Marsabit
Marsabit is a town in the northern Marsabit County in Kenya. It is situated in the former Eastern Province and is almost surrounded by the Marsabit National Park. The town is located east of the centre of the East African Rift at an elevation of between 1300 and 1400 metres. It serves as the capital of Marsabit County, and lies southeast of the Chalbi Desert in a forested area known for its volcanoes and crater lakes and others. 2006 Kenya Plane Crash
On 10 April 2006, a Kenya Air Force Harbin Y-12 crashed in Marsabit County in Kenya as it approached the Marsabit air strip. The crash killed 14 passengers, including a number of politicians. Background The flight to the region was to mediate a feud between rival communities at the Ethiopia–Kenya border.
