Azure Ray
Azure Ray is an American dream pop duo, consisting of musicians Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor. Formed in Athens, Georgia in 2001, they later moved to Omaha, Nebraska and became part of the Saddle Creek Records music scene, which also included Bright Eyes, The Faint, and Cursive. Azure Ray's music has often been featured in film and television, including '' Six Feet Under'', ''Grey's Anatomy'', and '' The Devil Wears Prada''. Biography Formation The pair met at the age of 15 while attending the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham. They fronted a band called Little Red Rocket, which released two CDs, ''Who Did You Pay'' (1997, Tim/Kerr) and ''It's in the Sound'' (2000, Monolyth Record Group), which earned them frequent comparisons to Veruca Salt. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Eric Bachmann
Eric Bachmann is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. He rose to prominence as the frontman of Archers of Loaf and Crooked Fingers. Originally a saxophone major at Appalachian State University, Bachmann’s music is distinctive for its creative and innovative arrangements. In addition to the guitar, he plays the piano and banjo regularly on tour. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, and grew up throughout the Southern United States. He currently lives in Athens, Georgia. Musical career Archers of Loaf (1991–1998) In 1991, Bachmann joined forces with guitarist Eric Johnson, bassist Matt Gentling, and drummer Mark Price to form Archers of Loaf. ''Azure Ray'' is the debut and eponymous studio album by American duo Azure Ray, consisting of Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink. It was originally released on January 16, 2001 by Warm Electronic Recordings. Background After their previous band disbanded, Taylor and Fink moved to Athens, Georgia where they formed Azure Ray. They signed to WARM and recorded the self-titled record with Eric Bachmann (Crooked Fingers and Archers of Loaf). Pitchfork praised the duo's debut, giving it a 7 out of 10, calling their debut "maudlin but beautiful, expertly crafted pop songs." The song "Sleep" was later featured in the 2006 Academy Award-nominated movie, The Devil Wears Prada featuring Anne Hathaway. DJ Paul Kalkbrenner sampled "Rise" in his 2008 hit song "Azure." Metacritic is a website that review aggregator, aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. David Barbe
David Barbe (pronounced ˈbɑɹ.bi BAR-bee; born September 30, 1963) is an American musician and producer/engineer from Athens, Georgia and director of the Music Business Certificate Program at the University of Georgia. He is chief of Chase Park Transduction studio in Athens. Barbe is known for his work as a songwriter, singer, guitarist, and bass guitarist in Sugar, Mercyland, and Buzz Hungry, as well as solo performances. He has produced nearly every album by the popular country rock band Drive-By Truckers, and has worked as producer and engineer with Son Volt. Brian Causey
Brian Causey (also known as Star Crunch) is an American musician, composer and singer. He is a founding member of surf rock band Man or Astro-man? and was the main songwriter and guitarist in the band from 1991 to 1998, and from 2006 to present. He currently runs the record label Warm Electronic Recordings. His stage name is a reference to the popular snack item made by Little Debbie, ''Star Crunch''. Television work In 1996, Man or Astro-man? recorded new music for the Cartoon Network show ''Space Ghost Coast to Coast'', which was mostly used as an ending theme for the show in the late 1990s.
