Batabanó, Cuba
Batabanó is a municipality and town in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It was founded in 1688. History Until the 1977 administrative reform, the municipality was divided into the barrios of Pueblo de Batabanó, Surgidero, Camacho, Pozo Redondo, La Julia and Sopapo. Geography The municipality is crossed by a number of small rivers, among them Río Guanabo, Río San Felipe, Río Pacheco, Río San Juan and Río Santa Gertrudis. The Batabanó cays, developed in the sea south of the community are part of the Canarreos Archipelago. Batabanó's territory is bordered by the Caribbean Sea and by the municipalities of Güira de Melena (in Artemisa Province), Quivicán, San José de las Lajas and Melena del Sur. It includes the villages of 13 de Marzo, Camacho, El Sopapo, La Gía, La Julia, La Serafina, Pedroso, Pozo Redondo, Santa Barbara, Santa Lucia, Surgidero de Batabanó and Zayas. Cayo Largo Del Sur
Cayo Largo del Sur, or simply Cayo Largo ("Long Key”), is a small resort island in Cuba, off the south coast of the northwestern part of the main island in the Caribbean Sea. The cay is about long and wide and is the second largest island in the Canarreos Archipelago. Cayo Largo is part of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud. History Christopher Columbus is said to have visited the island on his second expedition in 1494, and Sir Francis Drake may have also stopped on the island during his circumnavigation of the globe. Pirates also likely used the island as a base. Today, pristine beach, scuba diving, and wildlife draw tourists to the island, but no people live there permanently; locals who work in the hotels stay for about 20 days, then return to their families on nearby islands. Nueva Gerona
Nueva Gerona is a Cuban city, capital of the Isla de la Juventud special municipality and province. As of 2012, its population was 59,049. History The city was founded in 1830 by Francisco Dionisio Vives, who was the Spanish governor of Cuba at the time. There is an American graveyard in Nueva Gerona. Geography Nueva Gerona is located by the coast, in the north-eastern area of the island, between the hills of ''Caballos'' and ''Casas''. It is crossed by the river ''Río Las Casas'', which provides a navigable waterway to the Caribbean Sea. Isla de la Juventud (; en, Isle of Youth) is the second-largest Cuban island (after Cuba's mainland) and the seventh-largest island in the West Indies (after mainland Cuba itself, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, and Andros Island). The ''Circuito Sur'' (CS), meaning "Southern Circuit", is a west-east highway connecting Artemisa to Sancti Spíritus, through the southern and coastal side of central-western Cuba.Source: ''Mapa de Carreteras de Cuba'' (Road map of Cuba). The Havana Suburban Railway ( es, Red del ferrocarril suburbano de La Habana) is a passenger rail network serving the city of Havana, capital of Cuba, and its suburbs. Owned by the national company ''Ferrocarriles de Cuba'', it represents the only suburban rail system of the Caribbean island.
