Circuito Sur
The ''Circuito Sur'' (CS), meaning "Southern Circuit", is a west-east highway connecting Artemisa to Sancti Spíritus, through the southern and coastal side of central-western Cuba.Source: ''Mapa de Carreteras de Cuba'' (Road map of Cuba). Ediciones GEO, Havana 2011 - With a length of 491 km, it is the third-longest Cuban highway after the " Carretera Central" and the "Circuito Norte". Route Description The CN starts in Artemisa, capital of the homonym province, and crosses the provinces of Mayabeque, Matanzas, Cienfuegos and Sancti Spíritus, ending in the city of Sancti Spíritus. Artemisa
Artemisa () is a municipality and city in Cuba, formerly part of La Habana Province. According to a law approved by the Cuban National Assembly in August 2010, Artemisa became the capital city of the newly formed Artemisa Province, which comprises eight municipalities of the former La Habana Province and three from Pinar del Río. It has an area of 642.0 square kilometers and a population of over 85,000 inhabitants (2017). Due to its coffee crops in the past and the bucolic local landscape, it has received the nickname "Jardín de Cuba" (Garden of Cuba) and is also known as the "Villa Roja" (Red Village) due to the color of its soils. The municipality is home to the University of Artemisa, which trains professionals in agricultural sciences, high school and higher education teachers, business sciences, among others. Matanzas Province
Matanzas () is one of the provinces of Cuba. Major towns in the province include Cárdenas, Colón, Jovellanos and the capital of the same name, Matanzas. The resort town of Varadero is also located in this province. Unión de Reyes is a municipality and town in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. It is located in the western part of the province, south of Matanzas, the provincial capital. History Unión de Reyes was founded in 1844, and it was established as a municipality on July 1, 1879. Its name derives from ''Unión en el Punto de Reyes'', so named for its location at a railway junction. Cabezas, also known as ''San Antonio de Cabezas'', is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Unión de Reyes, in Matanzas Province. Sometimes referred to as ''Wajay'', it has a population of 5,549 and the council's administrative territory covers an area of 28.70 km². History The village was founded in 1822 around the church of San Antonio, and its population increased from 1827. Before the administrative reform of 1976, it was an autonomous municipality that included the villages of Bermeja, Bija, Lima and Magdalena. Melena Del Sur
Melena del Sur is a town and a municipality located south of the Mayabeque Province, in Cuba. Bordered on the north and northwest by San José de las Lajas, on the east by the municipality of Güines, and west by Batabanó and by the south by the Gulf of Batabanó. In the south shore is located the only beach in the town, Mayabeque Beach. In this beach is the old outlet of the Mayabeque River (called Antiguo Mayabeque). Geography The municipality is divided into 5 popular councils (wards or quarters), named after the most important towns, which are: Melena del Sur, Mañalich, Guara, Lechuga and Monte-Zapote.
