Unión de Reyes is a municipality and town in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. It is located in the western part of the province, south of Matanzas, the provincial capital. History Unión de Reyes was founded in 1844, and it was established as a municipality on July 1, 1879. Its name derives from ''Unión en el Punto de Reyes'', so named for its location at a railway junction. Geography The municipality, originally divided into the barrios of Iglesia and Unión, is divided into 9 ''consejos populares'' (i.e. "people's councils"): the town of Unión de Reyes and the villages of Alacranes, Bermejas, Cabezas, Cidra, Estante, Juan Ávila, Juan G. Limonar is a municipality and town in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. Overview The municipality is divided into the barrios of Canímar, Guamacaro, Caoba, Sumidero, Coliseo, and San Miguel. Established in 1876 as ''Guamacaro'', the name was changed to Limonar in the 1950s, when it achieved municipality status. Mayabeque Province
Mayabeque Province is one of two new provinces created from the former La Habana Province, whose creation was approved by the Cuban National Assembly on August 1, 2010, the other being Artemisa Province. The new provinces came in to existence on January 1, 2011. Overview Mayabeque is made up of the 11 eastern municipalities of the former La Habana province, with the capital in San José de las Lajas. Mayabeque Province is named after the Mayabeque River (the largest in this territory) as well as the south shore of Mayabeque beach, the place believed to be the original location of Havana village (San Cristóbal de La Habana) that was founded in 1514. Nueva Paz () is a municipality and town in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It was founded in 1802. Jagüey Grande, simply known as Jagüey (), is a town and municipality in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. It is located east of the Zapata Peninsula, north of the Bahia de Cochinos, along the A1 motorway in the center of the province. History The town was founded in 1840 and was named after the tree ''Ficus citrifolia'', locally named "Jagüey". Pedro Betancourt, sometimes shortened as Betancourt, is a municipality and town in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. It is located in the center of the province, west of Jagüey Grande and east of Unión de Reyes. It was founded in 1833. History Its original name was Corral Falso de Macurijes. Cabezas, also known as ''San Antonio de Cabezas'', is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Unión de Reyes, in Matanzas Province. Sometimes referred to as ''Wajay'', it has a population of 5,549 and the council's administrative territory covers an area of 28.70 km². History The village was founded in 1822 around the church of San Antonio, and its population increased from 1827.
