Havana Suburban Railway
The Havana Suburban Railway ( es, Red del ferrocarril suburbano de La Habana) is a passenger rail network serving the city of Havana, capital of Cuba, and its suburbs. Owned by the national company ''Ferrocarriles de Cuba'', it represents the only suburban rail system of the Caribbean island. Overview Outside Havana, the network serves some towns of its metropolitan area in Artemisa and Mayabeque provinces. A little part of Matanzas Province is served by the only electrified line of Cuba, the Hershey Electric Railway from Havana Casablanca station to Matanzas. Havana subway plans Plans for the construction of a rapid transit network in Havana was studied in 1921. Other plans for a subway, based on Russian networks, were studied in the late 1970s and 1980s, due to the relationship between Cuba and the USSR. Matanzas
Matanzas (Cuban ) is the capital of the Cuban province of Matanzas. Known for its poets, culture, and Afro-Cuban folklore, it is located on the northern shore of the island of Cuba, on the Bay of Matanzas (Spanish ''Bahia de Matanzas''), east of the capital Havana and west of the resort town of Varadero. Palos (Nueva Paz)
Nueva Paz () is a municipality and town in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It was founded in 1802. Geography The municipality is divided into 8 ''consejos populares'' (i.e. "people's councils): the town of Nueva Paz and the villages of Bagáez, Jagua, Navarra, Palos, San Luis, Las Vegas and Yaya. Güines
Güines is a municipality and town in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It is located southeast of Havana, next to the Mayabeque River. It is the most populated town, but not the capital, of its province. History The city was founded in 1737 by the Spanish. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish, what is now Güines was part of a region ruled by the Indian chief Habaguanex. One of the earliest mentions of the word Güines is in 1598, when Don Diego de Rivera or Ribera was awarded a land grant for ''Los Güines Corral''. Güines can be considered one of the primary points of Cuba's transformation into a sugar-producing slave society in the wake of the Haitian Revolution. Its demographics radically changed as a result. San José De Las Lajas
San José de las Lajas is a municipality and the capital city of the newly formed Mayabeque Province of Cuba, after the segmentation of La Habana Province in 2011. It is located in the center north of the province, and is bisected by the Carretera Central. It was founded in 1778. Cotorro
Cotorro, or San Pedro del Cotorro, is one of the 15 municipalities (''municipios'' in Spanish) in the city of Havana, Cuba.
