Breeders Crown Open Pace
The Breeders Crown Open Pace is a harness racing event for Standardbred pacers. It is one part of the Breeders Crown annual series of twelve races for both Standardbred pacers and trotters. The Open Pace for horses age four and older was first run in 1985. It is contested over a distance of one mile. Race organizers have awarded the event to various racetracks across North America. Harness Racing
Harness racing is a form of horse racing in which the horses race at a specific gait (a trot or a pace). They usually pull a two-wheeled cart called a sulky, or spider, or chariot occupied by a driver. In Europe, and less frequently in Australia and New Zealand, races with jockeys riding directly on saddled trotters ( in French) are also conducted. Breeds In North America, harness races are restricted to Standardbred horses, although European racehorses may also be French Trotters or Russian Trotters, or have mixed ancestry with lineages from multiple breeds. Pompano Park
Harrah's Pompano Beach, formerly Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park and Pompano Park, is a standardbred harness racing track and casino in Pompano Beach, Florida. It is billed as "The Winter Home of Harness Racing," as its tropical South Florida location makes it an ideal alternative for horsemen, when most of the racetracks to the north are subject to racing in snow, ice and bitter cold conditions. The track operates its live racing meet for about ten months out of every year, with a short break during the last half of June through the second week in August. Like most racetracks, Pompano simulcasts horse races from all over the US and Canada, allowing its patrons to wager on racing approximately 363 days per year. John Campbell (harness Racing)
John Duncan Campbell (born April 8, 1955 in Ailsa Craig, Ontario) is a retired Canadian harness racing driver. He has been inducted into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame, the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. Dunc Campbell and his father before him were Standardbred horsemen. Dunc had two sons Ray and Jack Campbell with his family near London, Ontario. Jack had two sons, John Campbell and Jim Campbell. Ray was a trainer/driver as well as his son Robert Campbell. Both John and Jim Campbell have established themselves in the upper echelon of harness racing, however many consider John Campbell the greatest reinsman of all-era's. Michel Lachance (harness Racing)
Michel "Mike" Lachance (born December 16, 1950 in St. Augustin, Quebec) is a retired harness racing driver. Widely recognized as among the best drivers of all time, his outstanding career began in 1967 in Quebec City. At retirement, he had won 10,253 races and purses totalling $187,710,149. He has been inducted into both the United States and Canadian Harness Racing Halls of Fame. National Driving Championships and Triple Crown win The holder of leading driver titles at major racetracks in Canada and the United States, Lachance began driving harness horses as a young boy and in 1967 began driving professionally at age seventeen in Quebec City, Quebec. MGM Northfield Park (previously Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park) is a racino in Northfield, Ohio, U.S.A., a community near Cleveland. Northfield Park conducts more than 200 harness racing nights each year. It is owned by Vici Properties and operated by MGM Resorts International. Freestate Raceway (originally Laurel Raceway from 1948 to 1979) was a horse racing track in Maryland. It opened in 1948 and closed in 1990. History Laurel: 1947–1979 In September 1947, a meeting was held about bringing a harness racetrack to Maryland, specifically Prince George's County and Howard County. Rosecroft Raceway was chosen for the Prince George's County license, and Freestate was chosen for the Howard County one. Freestate was originally called Laurel Raceway from its opening to 1979. Los Alamitos Race Course is a horse racing track in Cypress, California. The track hosts both thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. The track has the distinction of holding four quarter horse stakes races with purses over $1 million, more than any other track in the United States.
