Michel Lachance (harness Racing)
Michel "Mike" Lachance (born December 16, 1950 in St. Augustin, Quebec) is a retired harness racing driver. Widely recognized as among the best drivers of all time, his outstanding career began in 1967 in Quebec City. At retirement, he had won 10,253 races and purses totalling $187,710,149. He has been inducted into both the United States and Canadian Harness Racing Halls of Fame. National Driving Championships and Triple Crown win The holder of leading driver titles at major racetracks in Canada and the United States, Lachance began driving harness horses as a young boy and in 1967 began driving professionally at age seventeen in Quebec City, Quebec. He went on to win driving championships at Blue Bonnets Raceway in Montreal, Quebec. His success in Canada led to a move to the major tracks in the New York City area in 1982. Confederation Cup Pace
The Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup is a harness race for Standardbred pacers run annually at Flamboro Downs in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Set at a distance of one mile, it was first run in 1977 as the Confederation Cup Pace and through 2012 it was a race for three-year-olds. Placed on hiatus for 2013 and 2014, upon reinstatement in 2015, the Confederation Cup Pace was changed to an event for four-year-olds. The race was not contested in 2020 or 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, it was renamed the Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup in honour of Flamboro Downs' co-founder, Charles Juravinski, who died that year. The Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup is the signature race of Flamboro Downs. Over the years it has attracted some of the very best horses in North America including U. Race organizers have awarded the event to various racetracks across North America. The 2017 race will be held at Hoosier Park in Anderson, Indiana, United States. Historical race events Peace Corps won the race in 1988 in World Record Time. She went on to win her age group again in the 1989 Breeders Crown 3YO Filly Trot and won the 1990 Breeders Crown Open Mare Trot and that same race again in 1992, making her the only horse in history to win four Breeders Crown races. Breeders Crown
The Breeders Crown is an annual series of Harness races in the United States and Canada covering each of the sport's twelve traditional categories of age, gait and gender. The series was initiated by the Hambletonian Society, promoters of the Hambletonian Stakes, in 1984 to enhance the Standardbred breeding industry and to promote the sport of Harness racing by providing a lucrative high-profile championship race in each of these categories. The annual races for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings and 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings, are each part of the Grand Slam Prize in harness racing. For its first 15 years, races were contested at tracks around North America. After a 1998 appearance at the then-new Colonial Downs near Richmond, Virginia, the series has rotated between The Meadowlands (near New York City), Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs (in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania), and the Greater Toronto Area's two tracks, Woodbine Racetrack and Mohawk Racetrack.
