Bowerman House
The Bowerman House (built in 1907) is a designated Municipal Heritage Property located in the Holiday Park, neighborhood of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The home is of a crafts-man "Western Stick" style. The house was built as a hunting lodge by Allan Bowerman, graduate from Kingston Military College, first postmaster in Saskatoon on the west side of the river, and member of Saskatoon's first town council (1903 – 1905). Bowerman was also responsible for the development of the Canada Building. The home was designed by Walter William LaChance. Bowerman sold the home in 1917 after the end of a construction boom in the city. In 1923 the building was obtained by the ''Saskatchewan Anti-Tuberculosis League'' and became part of the Saskatoon Sanatorium serving as a doctor's residence until 1987. Walter William LaChance
Walter William LaChance (1870–1951) was a Canadian architect best known for his designs of rural schools, although he also designed numerous buildings of other types. His commissions were concentrated in Cleveland, Ohio, Hamilton, Ontario, Welland, Ontario, and various communities in Saskatchewan. While his practice was varied in terms of building type, he designed at least 16 schools for various Saskatchewan communities from 1906 to 1914. He was also the author of two books, ''Modern Schoolhouses'' (Toronto, 1919) and ''Schoolhouses and Their Equipment'' (Niagara Falls, New York, 1925). While LaChance received numerous commissions, some of them for large buildings, his career was marked by a lack of stability. He moved his architectural practice from city to city numerous times during his career, and was a partner in five different partnerships, all of them short-lived. Holiday Park is a neighbourhood in south-central Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Located within Saskatoon's Ward 2, Councillor Hilary Gough represents the area's interests at City Hall. Holiday Park has an official neighbourhood association which sets out leisure activities, and provides community members a forum to discuss community issues such as neighbourhood watch, block parent programs, etc. This neighbourhood is surrounded by a plethora of amenities. The Canada Building (built in 1913) is a historic eight-story office block in the Central Business District of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The building is in height featuring red granite facing on the base, with terra cotta details on the lower two floors and cornice near the roof. The office building features large bison heads flanking the main doorway. The office building was built by Allan Bowerman. The Meewasin Valley Authority is a conservation organization created by the Provincial Government of Saskatchewan in Canada and is dedicated to conserving the cultural and natural resources of the South Saskatchewan River Valley. The authority's activities include education, development and conservation. Centred in Saskatoon, the Conservation Zone of Meewasin runs along the river valley from the eastern edge of the municipality of Corman Park through Saskatoon to the western edge of Corman Park (Pike Lake to Clarke’s Crossing).
