Bocaranga
Bocaranga is a sub-prefecture in the prefecture of Ouham-Pendé in Central African Republic. The city must not be confused with Bocaranga I, Bocaranga II, Bocaranga III and Bocaranga IV. These are smaller villages along the road from Bocaranga to Bouar History The village of Bocaranga was ceded to German Kamerun on 4 November 1911. It went back to French Oubangi-Chari rule in 1914. In 1946 it became a district and on January 23, 1961 it became a sous-préfecture within the newly independent Central African Republic. Civil war On 23 September 2017 Bocaranga was captured by 3R rebels from Anti-balaka. It was recaptured by government forces on 7 January 2019. Geography and climate The city is located in the highlands of the northwest part of the country. It is surrounded by granite hills and rocks. Return, Reclamation, Rehabilitation (3R, french: Retour, Réclamation et Réhabilitation) is a rebel group in the northwestern part of Central African Republic. History The group was formed in December 2015 to protect Fulani herders from Anti-balaka militia attacks. On 27 September 2016, they captured the town of De Gaulle (now Koui) killing at least 17 civilians. Ouham-Pendé
Ouham-Pendé is one of the 16 prefectures of the Central African Republic. Its capital is Bozoum. The region contains several ghost towns such as Goroumo, Beogombo Deux and Paoua due to government forces ransacking them and armed bandits killing all the male inhabitants over the years from 2005 to 2008. In the north it has a border with Cameroon and Chad. Bouar
Bouar is a market town in the western Central African Republic, lying on the main road from Bangui (437 km) to the frontier with Cameroon (210 km). The city is the capital of Nana-Mambéré prefecture, has a population of 40,353, while the whole sous-préfecture has a population of 96,595 (2003 census). Bouar lies on a plateau almost 1000m above sea level and is known as the site of Camp Leclerc, a French military base. About seventy groups of megaliths lie in the town and to its north and east. The Bouar Megaliths, dating back to the very late Neolithic Era (c. 3500–2700 BC) were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on April 11, 2006 in the Cultural category. The Anti-balaka is an alliance of militia groups based in the Central African Republic in the early 21st century said to be composed primarily of Christians. However, some church leaders have contested the claimed exclusively Christian character of such groups.
