Banja Koviljača
Banja Koviljača ( sr-cyrl, Бања Ковиљача, ) is a popular tourist spot and spa town located in the city of Loznica, Serbia. Situated on the west border of Serbia by the Drina River and from Belgrade, it is the oldest spa town in Serbia. As of 2011 census, it has 5,151 inhabitants. Name ''Banja Koviljača'' is named after the plant ''kovilje'' (''Stipa pennata'') or feather grass, "banja" being the Serbian word for spa. It is also known as ''Kraljevska Banja'' ("The Royal Spa"). Features Banja Koviljača has a number of sulphuric and iron-bearing thermal mineral springs, ranging from 21 to 38 degrees Celsius in temperature. Patients drink and bathe in these waters, which are also used for the preparation of mud packs. Podrinje (Serbian Cyrillic: Подриње) is the Slavic name of the Drina river basin, known in English as the Drina Valley. The Drina basin is shared between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, with majority of its territory being located in Eastern Bosnia, entire Upper Drina course and majority of the Middle course, while the Lower Drina course is shared between two countries,with the river representing border. Battle Of The Drina
The Battle of the Drina ( Serbian: , ) was fought between Serbian and Austro-Hungarian armies in September 1914, near Loznica, Serbia, during the First Serbian campaign of World War I. After a first failed invasion of Serbia where he lost 40,000 men, Oskar Potiorek, the Austro-Hungarian commander of the Balkanstreitkräfte, launched a new offensive across the River Drina at the western Serbian border; after successfully crossing the river the night of 7—8 September the Austro-Hungarian forces were stopped facing strong Serbian defensive positions. In the meantime the Serbian Army was forced to end their offensive into Austrian Syrmia and regroup their forces to face the new threat, while in the far west a smaller force of Serbian and Montenegrin troops moved into Bosnia taking Višegrad.
