Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) ( bn, বাংলাদেশ টেলিযোগাযোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ কমিশন) is an independent commission founded under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001 (Act # 18 of 2001). The BTRC is responsible for regulating all matters related to telecommunications (wire, cellular, satellite and cable) of Bangladesh. The chairman of the commission has the status of a judge of the Bangladesh High Court. Shyam Sunder Sikder is the chairman of the commission. History In 1979, the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board was created through the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board ordinance. The ordinance was revised in 1995. The BTRC started operating from 31 January 2002 with a vision of facilitating affordable telecommunication services and increasing the teledensity to at least 10 telephones per 100 inhabitants by 2010. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) () is the road transport regulatory agency of Bangladesh. History Bangladesh Road Transport Authority was established under section 2A of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance of 1983 and the subsequent 1987 amendment. It has functioned since January 1988. BRTA is a regulatory body to control, manage and ensure discipline in the road transport sector of Bangladesh, as well as to maintain road safety. Bangladesh Civil Service ( bn, বাংলাদেশ সিভিল সার্ভিস ), more popularly known by its acronym BCS, is the civil service of Bangladesh. Civil service in the Indian subcontinent originated from the Imperial Civil Service which was the elite higher civil service of the British Empire in India during British rule in the period between 1858 and 1947. Bangladesh Public Service Commission ( bn, বাংলাদেশ সরকারী কর্ম কমিশন) is a quasi judicial constitutional body established in 1972. The commission is responsible for the recruitment of civil service servants in the Bangladesh government. It was formed by Section 137 of Part IX, Chapter II of the Constitution of Bangladesh. History The commission started as a public service commission in 1926 during British India. It was later known as the East Pakistan Public service commission after the partition of India. Md Jahurul Haque is a former district and sessions judge who is currently the commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission and former Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission. He is the former Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge. Early life Haque was born on 5 December 1955 in Jamalpur district, East Pakistan, Pakistan. Career Haque joined as the Munsef of the judicial cadre of Bangladesh Civil Service in 1983. Shahjahan Mahmood is a Bangladeshi technocrat and chairman of Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited. He is the former Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission. Early life Mahmood completed his undergrad in engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Sunil Kanti Bose is the former Secretary of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the former chairperson of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.
