Abraham Adgeh
Abraham Adgeh (; born 1965) is an Ethiopian-Israeli writer, social activist, and scholar on the history of the Beta Israel. He is also a structural engineer and head of the laboratory department at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. For his literary work, he won the Yuri Stern Minister of Immigrant Absorption Prize for Creative Immigrants in 2008. Biography Adgeh was born in a rural village in Ethiopia. His father was a blacksmith, and he grew up with five brother and sisters. His elementary school was an hour's walk from his home, and his high school was three hours away from his house. Yuri Stern ( he, יורי שטרן, russian: Юрий Штерн, Yuriy Shtern, 29 March 1949 – 16 January 2007) was a Russian-Israeli politician and journalist. He was a member of the Knesset from 1996 until his death, first as a member of Yisrael BaAliyah and later on behalf of Yisrael Beiteinu. Ethiopian Jews In Israel
Ethiopian Jews in Israel are immigrants and descendants of the immigrants from the Beta Israel communities in Ethiopia who now reside in Israel. To a lesser, but notable, extent, the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel is also composed of Falash Mura, a community of Beta Israel which had converted to Christianity over the course of the past two centuries, but were permitted to immigrate to Israel upon returning to Israelite religion - this time largely to Rabbinic Judaism. Most of the community made aliyah from Ethiopia to Israel in two waves of mass immigration assisted by the Israeli government: Operation Moses (1984), and Operation Solomon (1991).
