Mossad
The Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations (), popularly known as Mossad ( , ), is the national intelligence agency of the Israel, State of Israel. It is one of the main entities in the Israeli Intelligence Community, along with Military Intelligence Directorate (Israel), Aman (military intelligence) and Shin Bet (internal security). Mossad is responsible for intelligence assessment, intelligence collection, covert operations, and Counterterrorism, counter-terrorism. Its director answers directly and only to the Prime Minister of Israel, prime minister. Its annual budget is estimated to be around (US$2.73 billion), and it is estimated that it employs around 7,000 people, making it one of the world's largest espionage agencies. Aliza Magen-Halevi
Aliza Magen (; 5 July 1937 – 14 April 2025) was an Israeli intelligence officer. She served in the Mossad, Israel's national intelligence agency, for over 40 years from 1958 to 1999, participating in hundreds of covert operations, including Operation Damocles, Operation Diamond, and Operation Wrath of God. In 1990, she was named the Mossad's deputy director, becoming the highest-ranking woman in the agency's history. She served in this position under three Mossad directors until her retirement in 1999. Early life Magen was born to German immigrants in Mandatory Palestine on 5 July 1937 and grew up in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem. She married Avraham Magen, who died in 2011. Reuven Shiloah
Reuven Shiloah (; born Zaslansky, later shortened to Zaslani; Shiloah was his underground alias; December 20, 1909 – May 10, 1959) was a leader of the Israeli Intelligence Community and one of its founders. He was the founder and the first head of Mossad. Early life Shiloah was born into a religious family in Jerusalem during the late Ottoman empire, Palestine . He was the son of Sarah and Rabbi Aharon Yitzhak Zaslansky (a native of Lithuania), one of the rabbis of Jerusalem. He studied at the Tachkemoni School in the city, and later at the David Yellin Teachers College, where he learned Arabic and graduated in 1929. David Barnea
David "Dadi" Barnea (; born 29 March 1965) is an Israeli intelligence chief who serves as the current Director of the Mossad, having taken over from Yossi Cohen in June 2021. Early life and education Barnea was born in Ashkelon and grew up in Rishon Lezion. His father, Joseph Brunner (Barnea), fled with his family from Nazi Germany and immigrated to Israel at the age of three. Joseph was a graduate of the Hapoel HaMizrachi Yeshiva in Bnei Brak and joined the Palmach at the age of 16. He fought with the Third Battalion of the organization in Nabi Yusha and Safed and then served as an officer with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Israeli Air Force. Shabtai Shavit (; 17 July 1939 – 5 September 2023) was an Israeli intelligence officer who served as the Director-General of the Mossad from 1989 to 1996. Danny Yatom
Danny Yatom (; born 15 March 1945) is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Labor. In 1996–1998, Yatom was head of the Mossad and between 1999 and 2001, he served as Prime Minister Ehud Barak's Chief Of Staff and security advisor. Biography Danny Yatom was born and raised in Netanya, his brother is Ehud Yatom. He studied mathematics, physics, and computer science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Military Intelligence Directorate (Israel)
The Israeli Military Intelligence (), often abbreviated to Aman (), is the central, overarching military intelligence body of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Aman was created in 1950, when the Intelligence Department was spun off from the IDF's General Staff. The Intelligence Department was composed largely of former members of the Haganah Intelligence Service. Aman is an independent service, and not part of the ground forces, Navy or the Air Force. A cover in foreign, military or police human intelligence or counterintelligence is the ostensible identity and role or position in an infiltrated organization assumed by a covert agent during a covert operation. Official cover In espionage, an official cover operative is one who assumes a position in an organization with diplomatic ties to the government for which the operative works such as an embassy or consulate. This provides the agent with official diplomatic immunity, thus protecting them from the steep punishments normally meted out to captured spies. Intelligence assessment, is a specific phase of the intelligence cycle which oversees the development of behavior forecasts or recommended courses of action to the leadership of an organization, based on wide ranges of available overt and covert Intelligence (information), intelligence (also known as "intel").
