Atlas Electronic
Atlas Electronic is a Moroccan-Dutch organization that organizes an annual music festival in Marrakesh. Its members operate from Morocco and the Netherlands, aiming to support various organizations and their projects in Morocco; according to ''The Guardian'', it focuses on "underground music and cross-cultural collaborations". It was founded by Karim Mrabti, who grew up in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Festival The festival is held annually since 2016, in an ecolodge, the Villa Janna outside of Marrakesh; organizer Mrabti found the place via AirBnB. The festival stood out, according to ''Scene'', because besides Gnawa and other African music, it had such things as art exhibitions, cycling tours, and cooking demonstrations. Mrabti used to promote dance parties in the Netherlands, and organized the first festival within a year after the first conception. Marrakesh
Marrakesh or Marrakech ( or ; ar, مراكش, murrākuš, ; ber, ⵎⵕⵕⴰⴽⵛ, translit=mṛṛakc}) is the fourth largest city in the Kingdom of Morocco. It is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco and is the capital of the Marrakesh-Safi region. The city is situated west of the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. ''Vice'' (stylized in all caps) is a Canadian-American magazine focused on lifestyle, arts, culture, and news/politics. Sicaria Sound
Sicaria Sound were an electronic music duo composed of Lou Nour and Sancha Ndeko. History Lou Nour (FKA Imbratura) was born and raised in London with full Moroccan heritage. Sancha Ndeko is South-Sudanese and English and was born in Sheffield, grew up in Ghana and Nigeria before moving back to the UK to live in Bournemouth prior to settling in London. Having met at the back of a lecture hall at university where they were both studying Geography, they bonded over Fabric nightclub as well as their joint love for bass heavy music, particularly dubstep. Optimo
Optimo Espacio ('Optimum Space') was a weekly Sunday-night club based in Glasgow, Scotland at the Sub Club on Jamaica Street, as well as a collective moniker for the night's resident DJ duo. Having run every week since it was founded in 1997, on 11 March 2010, it was announced on the official Facebook page that the weekly nights would come to an end on Sunday 25 April 2010. However, JD Twitch and JG Wilkes continued to tour, promote and release music as Optimo. Often known simply as Optimo, the club takes its name from the eponymous Liquid Liquid song and 1983 EP title. Zak Khutoretsky, also known as DVS1 is an American DJ and techno producer based out of Minneapolis. He has toured extensively, headlined international music festivals such as Decibel and Dekmantel, and played along the likes of techno pioneers Jeff Mills and Robert Hood. Early life Khutoretsky was born in 1976 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, then part of the Soviet Union. He moved to the United States at a young age, where he shared his time between New York City and Minneapolis. His parents divorced early on and he spent a good deal of his adolescence in and out of trouble, switching schools several times as a result. Khutoretsky credits eight years of piano lessons and synthesizer-based radio music as his earliest musical influences. Mahmoud Guinia
Mahmoud Guinia ( ar, محمود ﯕينيا, and rarely or ; also spelled Gania, Guinea or Khania; 1951 – 2 August 2015) was a Moroccan Gnawa musician, singer and guembri player, who was traditionally regarded as a Maâllem (), i.e. master. The family name is Gania, which also was the spelling in the passport of the artist. He recorded for both domestic and foreign labels, and collaborated with numerous western musicians. Life Mahmoud Gania (or Guinia) was born in 1951 in the city Essaouira on the Atlantic coast. He was the second son of the master of Gnawa music, Maâllem Boubker Gania (1927–2000) and the famous clairvoyant and "moqaddema" A'isha Qabral. James Holden (producer)
James Alexander Goodale Holden (born 7 June 1979) is a British electronic music artist and DJ. After beginning his career as a DJ and producer, Holden has moved extensively into live performance and founded his own record label Border Community. Early career Holden grew up in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, before studying mathematics at Oxford University. He started his career in 1999 at age 19 and swiftly gained wider recognition with the release of trance single "Horizons", which he created with the freeware software Buzz. Sam Shepherd, known professionally as Floating Points, is a British electronic music producer, DJ, and musician. He is the founder of Pluto Records, co-founder of Eglo Records and leader of a 16-piece group called Floating Points Ensemble. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper.
