Artexte Information Centre
Artexte (in French: Centre d'information ''Artexte'') is an independent, federally chartered not-for-profit arts organization in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its principal mandate is to focus on research, interpretation and dissemination initiatives in order to broaden the influence and appreciation of contemporary visual arts. These activities are informed by a significant collection of art documentation and authoritative resources, as well as a network of multidisciplinary partners. Artexte's partnerships and alliances are built with others who also seek to bring attention to the value of documentation produced by the study and practice of contemporary art. Artexte affirms the presence of experimental, innovative and critical components of this field. Its activities touch on all aspects of contemporary visual art from 1965 to today, with special emphasis placed on Quebec and Canada. Contemporary Art
Contemporary art is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20th century or in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Their art is a dynamic combination of Medium (arts), materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that continue the challenging of boundaries that was already well underway in the 20th century. Angela Grauerholz
Angela Grauerholz D.F.A. (born January 10, 1952) is a German-born Canadian photographer, graphic designer and educator living in Montreal. Biography Grauerholz was born in Hamburg and completed studies in graphic design at the Kunstschule Alsterdamm there and studied literature and linguistics at the University of Hamburg. She came to Canada in 1976 and, with the help of a grant from the Canada Council, completed a MFA degree in photography at Concordia University. During the 1980s, she operated a graphic design studio, working on magazines, catalogues and books. In 1988, she began teaching graphic design at the Université du Québec à Montréal; in 2008, she became director of the Centre of Design there. She was one of the founders of the Artexte Information Centre in 1980. She has digitized much of her own work as well as her personal archive of images from newspapers and other sources. Anne Ramsden
Anne Ramsden (born 1952) is a Canadian artist who has exhibited widely in Canada. She is currently based in Montreal, where she is a professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Université du Quebec à Montréal. Life and education Ramsden was born in Kingston, Ontario. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University at Kingston, Queen's University in 1973, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1977, and a Master of Fine Arts from Concordia University in 1983. The Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MACM) is a contemporary art museum in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The MOBILIVRE-BOOKMOBILE project is a community arts initiative founded by the Bookmobile collective, a diverse group of emerging North American artists and community activists. Their mandate is to fuse artistic production with political activism and community organizing. The collective consists of a fluctuating group of dedicated volunteers, coordinators, jury organizers, and tour guides. Although the project is based primarily in Montreal, QC, and Philadelphia, PA, collective members reside in various cities throughout North America. The MOBILIVRE-BOOKMOBILE project explores the long-held tradition of bookmobiles as traveling libraries in order to promote the distribution of information.
