Arquitectonica
Arquitectonica is an international architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and urban planning design firm headquartered in Miami, Florida’s Coconut Grove neighborhood. The firm also has offices in ten other cities throughout the world. Arquitectonica began in 1977 as an experimental studio founded by Peruvian architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia, Laurinda Hope Spear, Andrés Duany, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, and Hervin Romney. Today, the firm continues to be led by Bernardo Fort-Brescia and Laurinda Hope Spear, and has designed such famous buildings as the Banco de Credito Headquarters, Lima (1988), Atlantis Condominium, the Pink House, and the American Airlines Arena in Miami and the Westin Hotel and entertainment complex in New York, amongst many others. Laurinda Hope Spear
Laurinda Hope Spear, FAIA, ASLA, LEED AP (born 1950) is an American architect and landscape architect based in Miami, Florida. She is one of the founders of Arquitectonica, the international architecture, planning, and interior design firm, which formed in 1977. In 2005, in order to further explore sustainable design principles, she co-founded ArquitectonicaGEO (ArqGEO), a landscape architecture, master planning and urban design firm. Early life Spear was born in 1950 and has lived in Miami throughout her life. She is the eldest of three children. Her father, Harold Spear was a surgeon. In 1968 she graduated from Everglades School and in 1972 received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brown University, where she later served as a trustee for six years. She received her Master of Architecture from Columbia University in 1975 and a Master of Landscape Architecture from Florida International University in 2006. Bernardo Fort-Brescia
Bernardo Fort-Brescia is a US-based Peruvian businessman and architect. He is the co-founder of the architectural firm Arquitectonica. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He won the AIA Silver Medal. He is also an heir to Grupo Breca. Early life Bernardo Fort-Brescia was born in Lima, Peru on November 19, 1951 into the Brescia family. His Italian-born grandfather, Fortunato Brescia Tassano, founded Grupo Breca, a real estate company-turned-conglomerate. His mother, Rosa Brescia Cafferata, is a billionaire heiress. His brother Alex Fort Brescia, is a businessman. Fort-Brescia studied architecture and urban planning at Princeton University and obtained his master's degree in architecture from Harvard University. Brickell City Centre
Brickell City Centre is a large mixed-use complex consisting of two residential high-rise towers, two office buildings, a high-rise hotel, and an interconnected five-story shopping mall and lifestyle center covering located in the Brickell district of Downtown Miami, Florida. Situated at the junction of Miami Avenue and Eighth Street, it spans up to five blocks to the west of Brickell Avenue and to the south of the Miami River. Contrary to the name, the development is not in the traditional downtown Miami city centre, but in the more recently redeveloped financial district of Brickell. American Airlines Arena
FTX Arena (known as American Airlines Arena from 1999 to 2021) is a multi-purpose arena located in Miami, Florida, along Biscayne Bay. It was constructed beginning in 1998 as a replacement for the Miami Arena and designed by the architecture firms Arquitectonica and 360 Architecture. The arena is home to the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association. The arena is directly served by the Miami Metrorail at Government Center station via free transfers to Metromover Omni Loop, providing direct service to Freedom Tower and Park West stations. The arena is also within walking distance from the Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre Metrorail station. The arena has 2,105 club seats, 80 luxury suites, and 76 private boxes. Atlantis Condominium
The Atlantis Condominium is a landmark 20-story luxury condominium building in Miami, Florida. It was built between 1980–1982, and was designed by the architectural firm Arquitectonica. The building is known for its glass facade and primary color scheme and the 5-story palm court which is cut out of the building. The palm court features a red spiral staircase, a jacuzzi, and a palm tree. The Atlantis's claim to fame was when it was featured on the opening credits of the television series "Miami Vice," and being used as an exterior filming set in two episodes. The building has 96 units and is located at 2025 Brickell Avenue. This building is an icon to the Miami skyline. Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk
Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk (born December 20, 1950) is a professor at the University of Miami's School of Architecture and an architect and urban planner in Miami, Florida. Plater-Zyberk is considered to be a representative of the New Urbanism school of urban planning, and an advocate of the New Classical school of architecture. She is also a co-founder and principal of DPZ CoDesign, a Miami-based architecture firm. Early life and education Plater-Zyberk was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Josephat Plater-Zyberk (1906–1994), an architect, and his wife, Maria Meysztowicz (1911–2000), a professor of French at Villanova University. Andrés Duany
Andrés Duany (born September 7, 1949) is an American architect, an urban planner, and a founder of the Congress for the New Urbanism. Early life and education Duany was born in New York City but grew up in Cuba until 1960. He attended The Choate School and Aiglon College and received his undergraduate degree in architecture and urban planning from Princeton University (1971). After a year of study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he received a master's degree from the Yale School of Architecture (1974). Coconut Grove
Coconut Grove, also known colloquially as The Grove, is the oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood of Miami in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The neighborhood is roughly bound by North Prospect Drive to the south, LeJeune Road to the west, South Dixie Highway (US 1) and Rickenbacker Causeway to the north, and Biscayne Bay to the east.
