Armand Sylvestre (Quebec MP)
Joseph-Ernest-Armand Sylvestre (May 15, 1890 – March 3, 1972) was a lawyer and political figure in Quebec, Canada. He represented Lake St. John from 1925 to 1930 and Lake St-John—Roberval from 1935 to 1945 in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member. He was born in Quebec City, the grandson of Louis Sylvestre. Sylvestre was first elected to the House of Commons in the 1925 federal election and reelected in 1926. Joseph-Léonard Duguay (October 8, 1900 – December 3, 1946) was a politician from Quebec, Canada and a Member of the House of Commons of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. He died on December 3, 1946 in Montreal. Background He was born in Pabos, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine on October 8, 1900 and became a dentist after graduating from the University of Montreal. Joseph-Alfred Dion (21 March 1897 – 30 November 1957) was an independent then Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Île-Verte, Quebec and became a lawyer by career. Dion was educated at Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, and at Université Laval where he received his LLB degree. He was first elected to Parliament at the Lake St-John—Roberval riding as an Independent Liberal candidate in the 1945 general election. Louis Sylvestre
Louis Sylvestre (February 12, 1832 – February 10, 1914) was a farmer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Berthier in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1871 to 1878 and from 1886 to 1889 as a Liberal. He was born in Sainte-Geneviève-de-Berthier, Lower Canada, the son of Pierre Sylvestre and Josephte Rivard, dit Lavigne. He was educated at the Collège de l'Assomption and established a farm at Île-Dupas. In 1848, he married Marie Plante. Sylvestre served on the local school board as commissioner, secretary and president. He was also mayor of Île-Dupas. Sylvestre was defeated by Joseph Robillard when he ran for reelection in 1878. He ran unsuccessfully for a federal seat in 1882. He resigned his seat in the Quebec assembly in 1889 and represented Lanaudière division in the Legislative Council of Quebec from 1890 to 1905. The 1925 Canadian federal election was held on October 29, 1925 to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 15th Parliament of Canada. The Conservative party took the most seats in the House of Commons, although not a majority. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party was invited to form a minority government. Unlike the Conservative party, King's Liberals had the conditional support of the many Farmer/Progressive MPs. The government fell the following year.
