Arctomiaceae
The Arctomiaceae are a family of lichenized fungi in the Ascomycota, class Baeomycetales. The family was named by Theodor Magnus Fries in 1861, with '' Arctomia'' as the type genus. Species in this family are found in arctic and subarctic habitats, usually associated with bryophytes. Classification The order Arctomiales was proposed by Soili Stenroos, Jolanta Miadlikowska, and François Lutzoni in 2014 to contain this family. In 2018, the class Lecanoromycetes was revised using a temporal approach that uses time-calibrated chronograms to define temporal bands for comparable ranks for orders and families. In this work, the orders Arctomiales, Hymeneliales, and Trapeliales were synonymized with Baeomycetales. The Baeomycetales are an order of mostly lichen-forming fungi in the subclass Ostropomycetidae, in the class Lecanoromycetes. It contains 8 families, 33 genera and about 170 species. As a result of molecular phylogenetics research published in the late 2010s, several orders were folded into the Baeomycetales, resulting in a substantial increase in the number of taxa. Arctomia Teretiuscula
''Arctomia teretiuscula'' is a rare species of squamulose (scaly) lichen in the family Arctomiaceae. It is found at high elevations in the mountains between Tibet and Sichuan, China. Taxonomy The lichen was formally described as a new species in 2005 by Norwegian lichenologist Per Magnus Jørgensen. The type specimen was collected by Walter Obermayer in Haigoulou glacier and forest park (Mount Gongga) at an altitude between ; here it was found growing on mossy rocks and soil. Because of its small size and nondescript colour, it is readily missed in the field. Although at the time of publication the lichen was only known to occur at the type location, Jørgensen speculates that it may have a wider distribution in similar habitats in the Himalayas. Theodor "Thore" Magnus Fries (28 October 1832 – 29 March 1913), was a Swedish botanist, lichenologist, and Arctic explorer. He was the son of the mycologist Elias Fries. Following in his father's footsteps, Fries studied botany, obtaining his doctoral degree in 1857 at Uppsala. He is credited for introducing the term in a commentary about the genus lichen genus '' Stereocaulon'' in an 1858 publication. Per Magnus Jørgensen
Per Magnus Jørgensen (born 1944) is a Norwegian botanist and lichenologist, and Professor Emeritus of systematic botany at the University of Bergen. He is known for his work on the lichen families Pannariaceae and Collemataceae. Jørgensen was awarded the Acharius Medal in 2021 for his lifetime contributions to lichenology. Biography Jørgensen was born in Stavanger, Norway, in 1944. He obtained his Candidatus realium from the University of Bergen in 1969, where Knut Fægri was his supervisor. In 1978, he earned a doctor philosophiae from University of Bergen, with a dissertation titled "The lichen family Pannariaceae in Europe". He was a student of prominent lichenologist Rolf Santesson; Gunnar Degelius was another early mentor. During his time as a student, he was recruited to work at the Botanical Garden in Bergen.
