Anton Elfinger
Anton Elfinger (15 January 1821 – 19 January 1864) was an Austrian physician and illustrator. Son of a pharmacist in Vienna, he trained at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where he was a student of Leopold Kupelwieser (1796-1862). He later studied medicine, earning his medical doctorate in 1845. Afterwards he was an assistant to dermatologist Ferdinand von Hebra (1816–1880) in Vienna. From 1849 until 1858, he was an illustrator of medical technical literature. He was acclaimed for his skillful artistry, in particular the artwork in Hebra's ''Atlas der Hautkrankheiten'' (Atlas of Skin Diseases), of which he shared the artistic duties with Carl Heitzmann (1836–1896). Elfinger was also a highly regarded cartoonist, and published his work under the pseudonym "Cajetan". Carl Heitzmann
Carl Heitzmann (2 October 1836 – 6 December 1896) was a Croatia born Austrian pathologist and dermatologist. Biography Heitzmann was born on 2 October 1836 in Vinkovci, Croatia to a Jewish family. His father, Martin Heitzmann, was a surgeon in the Austrian army. Heitzmann studied medicine in Budapest and Vienna, earning his doctorate in 1859. After graduation, he furthered his studies in Vienna with Franz Schuh (1804–1864), Ferdinand Hebra (1816–1880), Salomon Stricker (1834–1898), and Carl Rokitansky (1804–1878). In Vienna, he performed lectures on morbid anatomy at the university. When he was unable to succeed Rokitansky as the chair of pathology at Vienna, he emigrated to New York (1874). Here, he established a laboratory for microscopical research, and became one of the founders of the American Dermatological Association (ADA). A political cartoon, a form of editorial cartoon, is a cartoon graphic with caricatures of public figures, expressing the artist's opinion. An artist who writes and draws such images is known as an editorial cartoonist. Ferdinand Von Hebra
Ferdinand Karl Franz Schwarzmann, Ritter von Hebra (7 September 1816, in Brno, Moravia – 5 August 1880 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary) was an Austrian physician and dermatologist known as the founder of the New Vienna School of Dermatology, an important group of physicians who established the foundations of modern dermatology. Life Ferdinand Schwarzmann von Hebra was born to a military officer. He first studied in Graz, then entered the University of Vienna and graduated in medicine in 1841. He was influenced by Carl Freiherr von Rokitansky, one of the founders of modern pathological anatomy.
