Amjad Abu Alala
Amjad Abu Alala (, born in Dubai) is a Sudanese film director and screenwriter, who was born and lives in the United Arab Emirates. He became internationally known for his first feature film '' You Will Die at Twenty'' in 2019. This film was the first entry ever to be submitted from Sudan for the Academy Awards in the 'Best International Film' category, but was not selected in the final stage. His film has won, however, awards at international film festivals and has been shown internationally. Life and career Abu Alala was born in the United Arab Emirates of Sudanese parents and grew up in Dubai. He studied media and communication science at Emirates University and then made his first documentaries for several Arab and Western TV stations. He has also directed four short films until 2019. Doha Film Institute (DFI) is a nonprofit cultural organisation established in 2010 by Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to support the growth of the Qatari film community and to provide funding and international networking opportunities to creators. Cinema Of Sudan
Cinema of Sudan refers to both the history and present of the making or screening of films in cinemas or film festivals, as well as to the persons involved in this form of audiovisual culture of the Sudan and its history from the late nineteenth century onwards. It began with cinematography during the British colonial presence in 1897 and developed along with advances in film technology during the twentieth century. After independence in 1956, a first era of indigenous Sudanese documentary and feature film production was established, but financial constraints and discouragement by the Islamist government led to the decline of cinema from the 1990s onwards. The 74th annual Locarno Festival was held from 4 August to 14 August 2021 in Locarno, Switzerland. Sudan Independent Film Festival (SIFF) is an annual festival for Sudanese and international films in Khartoum. Since 2014, it has been organised between January 21–27 by the Sudan Film Factory.
