Adeline Plunkett
Marie-Adeline Plunkett (31 March 1824 – 8 November 1910) was a star of the Paris Opera Ballet from 1845 to 1857. She had earlier performed at the King's Theatre in London and was also engaged by La Fenice in Venice. She left Paris in 1857, appearing for a time in Rome before returning to Paris where she married the newspaper publisher in 1874. Biography Born on 31 March 1824 in Brussels, Marie-Adeline Plunkett was possibly of Irish and Flemish ethnicity. She was trained in Paris by the ballet master Jean-Baptiste Barrez (1792–1868). In 1841, she made her début in Trieste before moving to London where she joined the ballet company at the King's Theatre in 1843. While dancing in the ballet '' Odine'', she caused a scandal when she kicked Elisa Scheffer, her rival for the favours of the Earl of Pembroke. ''Robert le diable'' (''Robert the Devil'') is an opera in five acts composed by Giacomo Meyerbeer between 1827 and 1831, to a libretto written by Eugène Scribe and Germain Delavigne. Sofia Fuoco
Sofia Fuoco (16 January 1830, Milan, the Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia — 16 June 1916, Carate Urio, the Province of Como) — Italian ballerina. Was born as Maria Brambilla; her stage name, ''Fuoco'' (the mother's family name, given because there was more than one "Maria Brambilla" at the dance school) means ″Fire″ in Italian. ''La Péri'' is a fantastic ballet choreographed by Jean Coralli (1779-1854) to music composed by Friedrich Burgmüller. With a scenario devised by Théophile Gautier and Coralli, scenery designed by Charles Séchan, Jules Diéterle, Édouard Desplechin, Humanité Philastre, and Charles Cambon, and costumes designed by Paul Lorimer and Hippolyte d'Orshwiller, it was first presented by the Paris Opera Ballet at the Académie Royale de Musique on 17 July 1843. Scenario The ballet, in two acts, three scenes, had a typically Romantic plot dealing with a mortal's love for a supernatural being. A principal dancer (often shortened to principal) is a dancer at the highest rank within a professional dance company, particularly a ballet company. A principal may be male or female. The position is similar to that of '' soloist''; however, principals regularly perform not only solos, but also pas de deux. Principal dancers can be hired into a dance company or can also be a company dancer that is a corps de ballet dancer that gets promoted from within the company. That process can take multiple performance seasons or even years to achieve based on skill level and company interest.
