Abu Adam
Abu Adam (),or Abu Adam neighbourhood () and was officially known as Al Farouk City ( ar, مدينة الفاروق), is one of the neighbourhoods of Khartoum, Sudan, located in the southern side of Khartoum. Background Abu Adam was originally designed in the late 1970s. Then Al-Farouk City, entered a latent period where its growth was minimal until the mid-1990s. In the past 10 years, the city has begun to gain momentum and construction is taking place almost everywhere. The first settlers had to live without electricity and running water supply for a long time and the only option was to finance and buy water pipes and electric cables in addition to paving roads. Now the basic infrastructure like electricity and water is part of the city grid. During the 2023 Sudan conflict, on 10 July, the Sudanese Air Force bombed the areas of Abu Adam and Jabra, south of Khartoum. Central Africa Time
Central Africa Time or CAT, is a time zone used in central and southern Africa. Khartoum (state)
Khartoum State ( ar, ولاية الخرطوم, Wilāyat al-Kharṭūm) is one of the eighteen states of Sudan. Although it is the smallest state by area (22,142 km2), it is the most populous (5,274,321 in 2008 census). It contains the country's largest city by population, Omdurman, and the city of Khartoum, which is the capital of the state as well as the national capital of Sudan. The capital city contains offices of the state, governmental and non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions, and the main airport. The city is located in the heart of Sudan at the confluence of the White Nile and the Blue Nile, where the two rivers unite to form the River Nile. Khartoum
Khartoum or Khartum ( ; ar, الخرطوم, Al-Khurṭūm, din, Kaartuɔ̈m) is the capital of Sudan. With a population of 5,274,321, its metropolitan area is the largest in Sudan. It is located at the confluence of the White Nile, flowing north from Lake Victoria, and the Blue Nile, flowing west from Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The place where the two Niles meet is known as ''al-Mogran'' or ''al-Muqran'' (; English: "The Confluence"). From there, the Nile continues north towards Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. 2023 Sudan Conflict
An armed conflict between rival factions of the military government of Sudan began on 15 April 2023, when clashes broke out in cities, with the fighting concentrated around the capital city of Khartoum and the Darfur region. As of 27 May, at least 1,800 people had been killed and more than 5,100 others had been injured. The conflict began with attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on government sites. Airstrikes, artillery, and gunfire were reported across Sudan including in Khartoum. Sudanese Air Force
The Sudanese Air Force ( ar, القوّات الجوّيّة السودانيّة, Al-Quwwat al-Jawwiya As-Sudaniya) is the air force operated by the Republic of the Sudan. As such it is part of the Sudanese Armed Forces. History The Sudanese Air Force was founded immediately after Sudan gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1956. The British assisted in the Air Force's establishment, providing equipment and training. Four new Hunting Provost T Mk 51s were delivered for jet training in 1961. In 1958, the Sudanese Air Force's transport wing acquired its first aircraft, a single Hunting President. In 1960 the Sudanese Air Force received an additional four re-furbished RAF Provosts and two more Hunting Presidents. Jabra, Khartoum
Jabra (), or Gabra, is one of the neighbourhoods of Khartoum, Sudan, located in the southern side of Khartoum. History On 2 July 2015, a significant number of women in Khartoum took action by blocking Jabra's main street, which connected the southern and eastern neighbourhoods of the city. They were protesting the continuous disruption of drinking water supply to their homes, which had been ongoing for five consecutive days. During the protest, the women voiced their grievances against the government and demanded immediate water provision. Witnesses reported that the demonstrators used concrete blocks to obstruct the main street, causing an hour-long disruption in traffic. Subsequently, the police intervened and dispersed the women's demonstrations.
