9th Bengaluru International Film Festival 2017 (BIFFES 2017) was inaugurated by former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah on 2 February 2017 in Bengaluru. A total of 240 films from 60 countries including Oscar nominees of the year such as The Salesman by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi Asghar Farhadi ( fa, اصغر فرهادی, ; born 7 May 1972)Soureh Movie Database
and A Man Called Ove by Swedish director Hannes Holm were screened from 2 February to 9 February 2017.

Anocha Suwichakornpong ( th, อโนชา สุวิชากรพงศ์, born 1976) is a Thai independent film director, screenwriter and producer. She is Visiting Lecturer on Art, Film, and Visual Studies at Harvard University. Pawan Kumar (born 29 October 1982) is an Indian film director, actor, producer, and screenwriter from the Cinema of Karnataka, Kannada film industry. Pawan Kumar is well known for writing the films ''Manasaare'' and ''Pancharangi''. His directorial debut ''Lifeu Ishtene'' (2011) and the 2013 psychological thriller ''Lucia (film), Lucia'' became one of the biggest turning points of his career. Being from a theatre background, he wrote scripts for plays on stage before working as an associate director with Yograj Bhat. ''U Turn'' is a 2016 Indian Kannada-language supernatural thriller film written, produced and directed by Pawan Kumar. It stars Shraddha Srinath in the lead role. Zhao Te-yin (; born 18 December 1982), also known as Midi Z, is a Myanmar-born Taiwanese film director. His 2014 film ''Ice Poison'' was selected as the Taiwanese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards. On November 7, 2016, his work ''The Road to Mandalay'' (2016) was screened in his home country for the first time. Life and career Chao was born in Lashio, Shan State, Myanmar. Both his parents are of Chinese descent, and his ancestral home is Nanjing. The son of a cook and a doctor, Chao was the youngest of five children and grew up poor. He won a scholarship and moved to Taiwan when he was 16, where he went to high school.
