2018 Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The 2018 Galway Senior Hurling Championship was the 121st staging of the Galway Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment in 1887. The winners St. Thomas' were presented with the Tom Callanan Cup having beaten Liam Mellows in the final on 18 November. Liam Mellows were the reigning champions. Ballinderreen participated in the senior championship having been promoted from the intermediate competition in 2017. Competition format Twenty four reams compete in the initial group stages of the championship – the top ranked twelve teams compete in the Senior A Group and the second ranked twelve teams compete in the Senior B Group. Eight teams from the Senior A Group and four teams from the Senior B Group progress to the knockout stage. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. Mullagh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Mullagh, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Pádraig Pearse's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the Ballymacward- Gurteen parish in County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1966, when the Gurteen and Ballymacward Junior Hurling clubs merged and was predominantly concerned with the game of hurling. There has always been a strong tradition of hurling in the parish, with one of the earliest recordings in local press dated to 1882. The first club in the parish was officially affiliated to the G.A.A. in 1886. Pádraig Pearse's GAA fields hurling teams from Under-6 to Senior level. Hurling Players from the club have represented Galway at all levels. Abbeyknockmoy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Abbeyknockmoy, County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. History The club was founded in 1953. A junior team was affiliated in 1954. In the sane year, the team won its first title and were crowned North Board Junior champions. In the intervening years, the club won a total of 26 titles with senior status attained for the second time in 1985 when they won the Intermediate championship. St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels. The club also competes in camogie competitions, and has won several county, province and national titles in the sport. History Athenry GAA club was founded in 1885. Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Tynagh, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling History As neighbouring parishes both Tynagh and Duniry often combined in an effort to field teams. Beagh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located near Shanaglish in south County Galway, Republic of Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with hurling.
