2015 Istanbul Suicide Bombing
On 6 January 2015, Diana Ramazova from Dagestan detonated a bomb vest at a police station in Istanbul's central Sultanahmet district, near the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The attack killed Ramazova and injured two police officers, one of whom later succumbed to his wounds. Ramazova was the pregnant widow of a Norwegian-Chechen ISIS fighter in Syria who had been killed in December 2014. Attack Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin said the woman, who reportedly spoke English with "a thick accent" and was dressed in a niqab, entered the police station and told officers she had lost her wallet before detonating the bomb. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu told reporters that the bomber was carrying two other devices, which were safely defused by officers on the scene. Emergency services rushed to the blast site, while the tram line that runs through the district was temporarily suspended. Fikret Şeneş
Fatma Fikret Şeneş (1921 – 16 February 2015) was the first Turkish female songwriter. By writing over 290 songs, she hugely contributed to the Turkish pop music. Her songs attracted great interest. Career In the mid-1950s, Fikret Şeneş, who was in her early 30s, wrote her first lyrics for Erol Büyükburç, took vocal lessons and played the piano. In the late 1960s, "İki Yabancı" became the first Turkish song written by Şeneş. She then wrote hundreds of songs for popular artists in Turkey. Personal life Fikret Şeneş's mother, Calibe, together with her husband chose their surname Şeneş as the Surname Law (Turkey), Surname Law was enforced in Turkey. After graduating from the Robert College, American College for Girls in Istanbul, Fikret Şeneş enrolled in the singing department of the conservatory and left without finishing the conservatory. Beria Onger
Bakiye Beria Onger (1921 – February 14, 2015) was a Turkish feminist activist and writer, a pioneer of the progressive women's movement in Turkey. She led the Progressive Women's Organization of Turkey until it was banned ahead of the 1980 coup. Onger also ran for Senate as a member of the Communist Party of Turkey in 1979. Early life and education Beria Onger was born Bakiye Beria Hanım in Çanakkale, Ottoman Empire, in 1921. She studied to become a lawyer at Ankara University, Law School, graduating in 1941. She worked as a government civil servant, then began practicing law independently in 1957. Activism Onger founded a small organization of women activists in 1965. Then, in 1975, she became the founding president of , the Progressive Women's Organization of Turkey, which fought for women's democratic and economic rights. Müzeyyen Senar
Müzeyyen Senar (; 16 July 1918 – 8 February 2015) was a Turkish classical music performer, known as the "''Diva of the Republic''". Early years Müzeyyen Dombayoğlu was born in 1918 in the village of Gököz, in Keles district of Bursa Province, in the then Ottoman Empire. She had two elder brothers İsmet and Hilmi. Her mother Zehra used to sing Senar to sleep. At the age of five, she developed a stutter after returning from a wedding ceremony, which she thought was the result of fear, as she recalled. Her speech disorder lasted until adulthood, though, as is usually the case with performers, it did not affect her singing voice. At six years old, knowing most of the popular folk songs by heart, she sang at family gatherings and wedding ceremonies, to which her mother took her.
