2015 Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The 2015 Galway Senior Hurling Championship was the 118th staging of the Galway Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment in 1887. Gort GAA, Gort were the reigning champions. Cappataggle GAA, Cappataggle participated in the senior championship having won the intermediate competition in 2014. Fixtures and results Group stage The Group stage draw was made on 23 February 2015 in the Salthill Hotel and broadcast live on Galway Bay FM. The first round of games took place on the weekend of 25 April 2015. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. Pearse Stadium ( ga, Páirc an Phiarsaigh) is the principal GAA stadium in Galway, Ireland. The Galway GAA Gaelic football and hurling teams use the stadium for their home games. The stadium, amongst others in the province of Connacht, is also used for games in the Connacht Senior Football Championship History Early years The stadium opened on 16 June 1957, as 16,000 people came to watch Galway beat Tipperary in hurling, and Kerry in football, and to watch Bishop Michael Browne bless the facility. The stadium was opened by GAA President, Séamus McFerran. Among those invited were the 12 surviving members of the 1923 all-Ireland winning hurling team. The area on which the stadium was built was known locally as The Boggers. Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Tynagh, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling History As neighbouring parishes both Tynagh and Duniry often combined in an effort to field teams. In the early years of the 20th century there were also two separate clubs in Tynagh and Duniry. In 1996 both Tynagh and Abbey/Duniry joined forces at under-age level as a result of a decline in population. Beagh GAA
Beagh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located near Shanaglish in south County Galway, Republic of Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with hurling. The club nor cup competes in Galway GAA competitions and fields two teams, Senior and Junior B. In 2008 it amalgamated with neighbouring Kilbacenty at juvenile level forming Michael Cusack's Hurling Club. Sarsfields Galway is a GAA club consisting of the parish of Bullaun, New Inn and Woodlawn in East County Galway, Ireland. Winners of two All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship's. The club was founded in 1966 and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. And in 2016 Sarsfields Hurling Club celebrated its 50th year. Portumna GAA
Portumna GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Portumna in County Galway. The club is almost exclusively centred on hurling. History The first mention of Portumna in terms of Gaelic games comes in 1888 with regard to a junior Gaelic football game against Eyrecourt. The club remained in the background of senior club hurling until 1995 when Portumna contested their first county final. Victory on that occasion went to Sarsfield's. The 2000s saw a golden age for the club as it contested seven consecutive county finals between 2003 and 2009. Victory was achieved in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Portumna also won three All-Ireland titles during this period (2006, 2008 and 2009) as well as in returning to win in 2014. Kiltormer GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Clontuskert, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer areas outside Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Overview History Gaelic games in the Kiltormer area have been recorded as far back as 1897. Down through the years Clontuskert, Lawrencetown and Kiltormer affiliated separate teams, while Ganaveen and Tristaun also formed separate clubs.
