The 2024 Johan Cruyff Shield was the 28th edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield ( Dutch: ''Johan Cruijff Schaal''), an annual Dutch association football match contested by the winners of the previous season's Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. It was played at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven on 4 August 2024, and featured the 2023–24 Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven and the 2023–24 KNVB Cup winners Feyenoord. Background PSV qualified for the Johan Cruyff Shield as champions of the 2023–24 Eredivisie with 91 points, their most ever in a single Eredivisie season, finishing nine points clear of second-placed Feyenoord. Feyenoord qualified for the Johan Cruyff Shield as winners of the 2023–24 KNVB Cup, beating N.E.C. in the final and PSV in the round of 16. Johan Cruyff Shield
The Johan Cruyff Shield (, ) is a football trophy in the Netherlands named after Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff, also often referred to as the Dutch Super Cup. The winner is decided in one match only, played by the winner of the national football league, Eredivisie, and the winner of the national KNVB Cup. In the event of a team winning both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup, the Johan Cruyff Shield will be contested between that team and the runner up in the national league. The trophy The trophy is a silver plate with a 60-centimetre diameter. It is similar to the trophies received by the champions of the Eredivisie. Peter Bosz
Peter Sylvester Bosz (, born 21 November 1963) is a Dutch professional football manager and former player. Playing career Club A midfielder, Bosz started his professional career played with Vitesse in 1981; after a loan season with then amateurs AGOVV Apeldoorn in 1984, he returned into professional football with RKC Waalwijk (from 1985 to 1988), then moving to France with SC Toulon (1988 to 1991), and successively playing six seasons with Dutch giants Feyenoord (1991 to 1996), Japanese club JEF United Ichihara (1996–97), German club Hansa Rostock (1997–98), NAC Breda (1998–99). He retired at the end of the year 1999 after a second spell with JEF United Ichihara. 1996 Johan Cruyff Shield
The first edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 18 August 1996 at the Amsterdam Arena. Although this was the seventh Dutch Supercup match to be played, it was the first one held under the Johan Cruyff Shield title ( nl, Johan Cruijff Schaal), with former editions being played under the name Dutch Supercup ( nl, Nederlandse Supercup). This was also the first Supercup game to be held at the Amsterdam Arena. From this year on each Supercup game would be played there, with each KNVB Cup final being played at De Kuip in Rotterdam. The match was the first competitive game to be played at the Amsterdam Arena, after a friendly match between Ajax and Milan four days earlier. 2016 Johan Cruyff Shield
The 2016 Johan Cruyff Shield was the 21st edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield ( nl, Johan Cruijff Schaal), an annual Dutch football match played between the winners of the previous season's Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. The match was contested by Feyenoord, the 2015–16 KNVB Cup winners, and PSV Eindhoven, champions of the 2015–16 Eredivisie. It was held at the Amsterdam Arena on 31 July 2016. Watched by a crowd of 30,000 and a television audience of 1.7 million, PSV won the match 1–0. This was the first Johan Cruyff Shield to be played after the death of its eponym Johan Cruyff. The trophy was awarded by Susila Cruyff, his daughter.
