1996 Johan Cruyff Shield
The first edition of the Johan Cruyff Shield was held on 18 August 1996 at the Amsterdam Arena. Although this was the seventh Dutch Supercup match to be played, it was the first one held under the Johan Cruyff Shield title ( nl, Johan Cruijff Schaal), with former editions being played under the name Dutch Supercup ( nl, Nederlandse Supercup). This was also the first Supercup game to be held at the Amsterdam Arena. From this year on each Supercup game would be played there, with each KNVB Cup final being played at De Kuip in Rotterdam. The match was the first competitive game to be played at the Amsterdam Arena, after a friendly match between Ajax and Milan four days earlier. It featured the winners of the 1995–96 Eredivisie champions Ajax, and the winners of the 1995–96 KNVB Cup, PSV Eindhoven. Ronald Waterreus
Ronald Katarina Martinus Waterreus (; born 25 August 1970) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He notably played for PSV Eindhoven and Rangers, before ending his career at New York Red Bulls in the Major League Soccer. Club career Born in Lemiers, Limburg, Waterreus started his career in 1992, playing for Roda JC. After joining PSV Eindhoven in 1994 he quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Eredivisie, eventually being selected for the Dutch national squad. Mario Dino Patrick Melchiot (born 4 November 1976) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a defender. Nordin Wooter (born 24 August 1976) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a right-winger. Club career Wooter was born in Breda, and started playing at OSV and AVV Zeeburgia before joining the youth academy of Ajax. He entered the Ajax first team at the time of the successes between 1994 and 1996 where he became the national champion twice and won the UEFA Champions League with the team. Peter Martin Hoekstra (; born 4 April 1973) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a winger for PSV Eindhoven, Ajax and Stoke City. Capped 5 times by the Dutch national team, he was a member of the Dutch squad at Euro 1996 in England under manager Guus Hiddink. Richard Peter Witschge (born 20 September 1969) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a midfielder. He was known for his technique and passing ability.
